Re: First Guitar Finished

Thanks Mark, Number two is actually about a week away from being posted on here- built them as a pair- this one is all blackwood. Number 3 and 4 are on the way too- had so many little bottlenecks building jigs or buying/making tools whilst making the first two I got the boxes on the next two closed ...

Re: First Guitar Finished

Thanks Wayne and Trent,

It's Martin long scale 25.34. The tweaks were the solid lining and also I went with a 1 11/16 nut size and 2 3/16 bridge spacing.

First Guitar Finished

Hi Everybody, This is my first guitar, finished setting it up last night and spent a couple of very pleasurable hours playing it. What an amazing feeling to sit down and play your first guitar! It's a 000-12 from stewmac plans with a few slight tweaks of my own. Bunya top and braces Silky oak back, ...

Fret bending?

Hello all, About to fret my first radiused board and pondering how to go about bending fret wire. I've got the straight stuff from stewmac. I've seen the fancy fret radiusing jigs and people bending by hand on you tube. Just thought I'd mine the collective wisdom of the forum before setting about it...

Re: 12 String design thoughts

I love the multiscale idea- would be so effective making sure string tension is good. Thanks so much for the thoughts and the links Mark.
Martin are you a fan of the multiscale design having made and played one? Does look like a challenge to execute.

12 String design thoughts

Hi All, Was just listening to a Fretboard Journal podcast with Todd Albright. He was talking about 12 string guitars- specifically 12 strings with heavy gauge strings tuned way down. Got me thinking.... love to play one set up like this- would add a really nice dynamic to a two acoustic guitar sound...

Re: alternative fingerboard woods

I'm only a newbie to the game so my opinion doesn't carry much weight I'm afraid, but I've used sheoak which I really like for fretboards, bridges and bindings. It's dense and pretty stable, can be prone to chipping and looks amazing when finished. Bends really well too. Takes a high sheen when sand...

CNC fretboard radius file?

Hi Everybody, Having a crack at building my first pair of guitars at the moment, 000 size and I'm looking at doing the fretboard radius. The school I work at (I'm a teacher) has a cnc machine. They use v carve as software for it. Unfortunately I don't have the software on my computer for it, but the...

Thanks very much gents. I thought it might have been, just wanted some input of some more expert eyes.
The piano tuner said it just won't tune up to pitch any more and won't hold pitch.

Is this spruce?

Hi Everyone, So the piano at home reached the cannot be tuned stage and has gone into retirement. Rather than just throw it out I decided to try and salvage some wood from it. Got some nice ebony and ivory from the keys and was hoping to get some spruce brace material from the soundboard ribs. I've ...

Re: Mango Tenor

Thanks Jonny,
No, I kept it to my usual thickness but changed the bracing as it wasn't as stiff as the bunya I usually use. Apparently it does make a really nice guitar too. I'm really happy with the sound- I'd definitely use it again for uke.

Cheers

Mango Tenor

Just finished this tenor ukulele.
Mango body
5 piece Silky, Vic ash and mystery wood I had lying around neck
Casurina fretboard
Casurina and Macassar ebony bridge

Pretty happy with the sound, it's only been strung up a day though so we'll see how it settles in.
