User testers for a new website

I am just about to launch a new site for the Brissy school, if anyone has a spare 20 mins or so and is willing to do some user testing, can you please drop your email address? It's just a matter of reading and clicking all the links and logging anything that doesn't work in a spreadsheet. Had a coup...

Re: Frets causing back bow

In the clip TJ Thompson advises not to order anything from Australia..try to get it locally (ie from the US). Is he talking about these"?: https://www.thesandpaperman.com.au/sia-single-sided-foam-sanding-pad-fine.html Couldn't find any reference to bar frets in the video clip... I think these https...

Re: Frets causing back bow

My fret saw is 0.5mm, my fret tangs are 0.5mm wide so why when I install the Frets do I get a back bow on my fretboard I wonder? I'm guessing that the 0.5mm measurement doesn't include the barbs (or the frets would just fall out). The barbs will force a bit of back bow, especially if you're frettin...

Re: Shines hardened shellac - ratios

Hi Bob, The ratio of alcohol to shellac isn't significant. A 1:4 ratio just gives you a two-pound cut which is a good practical bench cut. After I mix a bench cut I will then cut it down further with additional alcohol depending on what I am doing. I french polish with something more akin to a 1/3 t...

You could also try Pete Curly. I think I saw on IG he was prepping for a yard sale so may have stock handy.

Re: Blackwood & Australian Red Cedar OM

Very nice Trent. What's it sound like? I'm almost finished one with the same timbers and the b/w came from Pete too and the sap wood is almost identical. Wayne Thanks. Wayne it actually has a wolf note which needs to be dealt with. Unfortunately, I haven't the brain space for that at the moment so,...

If you search for a 'one-piece collet with set screw' you will find thousands of suppliers.

Re: How to finish a white lute?

I'm with Martin, FP is not that hard just a bit of a learning curve and the real pain is the pore filling. It's basically just wiping on shellac, levelling and buffing. If you're going to go with satin oil finish both tru-oil and osmo easy to apply. I much prefer osmo feel under the hand.

Interesting that it is centred just to the right of the bridge with nothing else going on. Is it possible you have a loose brace in that area?

Really lovely and having all the same wood, it would be interesting to know if you think the wood choices perform differently at different sizes.

Blackwood & Australian Red Cedar OM

This is another of my recently completed builds. Less bells and whistles than others lately but was an enjoyable straight forward build. It is a falcate braced, 14 fret OM. Stunning blackwood back and sides from Mr Curly, bell-like ARC soundboard and silver quandong neck from Mr Linton. Obviously tr...

Maple fretboard on a classical…. ridiculous! I love it! Actually everything about this guitar works beautifully, esp like the rosette and matching inlay. Re: Epoxy, brushes, CF tow, oh my!

Hey Joel, we've used Westsystem and Botecote. I'd say the lower the ratio the easier it is to deal with in small batches so Botecote's 2:1 is a bit easier to measure out than the westsystem's 5:1. Botecote also has a longer open time about 30mins and if you need more you can add some TPRD. We use ch...
