And Dave, if there ever was a better solo than Comfortably Numb I haven’t heard it. Everyone has their favourites.....the guitar solo on "Aja" by Steey Dan is a masterpiece IMHO. Forget who played it. Anyway this thread is going to wander as it really boils down to what turns you on and what turn...

You are correct David. The top of the range Alvarezs are made either by Yairi or under his direct supervision. The rest of the Alavarez range I suspect are made in places like China. How to spot the Yairi built instruments. The headstock logos are slightly different on the run of the mill Alvarez's ...

First off Im biased and terribly opinionated. Bottom line is I dont have much time for electrics simply because they excite me about as much as an Adidas full of dog vomit. As for heavy metal shredders taking guitar playing to a new level....I agree theyre on a new level but they arent on the same l...

Tantellones in..... Yes....those outer fan struts are a bit closer to the sides than I would have liked. Shouldnt be a big problem as the top is thinned towards the periphery of the lower bout. http://www.anzlf.com/phpBB2/userpix/19_IMGP4150_1.jpg http://www.anzlf.com/phpBB2/userpix/19_IMGP4152_1.jpg

Grant youll need a minimum of two coats of full strength Zpoxy. On my last guitar I did three neat coats and then a 50/50 wash coat wiped on with a cloth. As already stated I sand all coats back to bare wood. You need to first decide if youre going to do this or your end aim is a smooth coat of zpox...

Jaco Patorius ripped the frets out of his P bass and then gave the whole fretboard a coat of marine epoxy....rough as guts but it did the trick Many thanks for all that info Kim. It's given me an idea  Failing Larry's Acrylisation method , What if I flood The fretboard surface with thin C.A. ?...

Alcohol of great assistance when bending sides
Made a bit of progress on the current build in between domestic duties and a long Geologists Lunch. Pics are of the right hand rib being bent....went alot easier than the left rib which started splitting around the waist. A little bit here.....(pre lunch) http://www.anzlf.com/phpBB2/userpix/19_IMGP4...

Sam, I suspect smokey coloured eggs are a phenomenon perculiar to Wales. I believe foxes are a big problem in Wales and as a result people there often take their chooks with them when they head off down to the local for a pint. Just a word about egg whites...some egg whites have a bit of tint in the...

Only if you want to pop the grain. You could try using egg whites as a seizing agent as Colin does. I dont bother with Zpoxy on my spruce tops....I french polish them all the way. Does anyone think a washcoat or full strength of Z-poxy be a good way to go on the top? cheers thanks a million everyone.

Keep the cap on the bottle and dont stock pile the stuff. I buy a couple of bottles at a time and if the bottle doesnt get cracked after a few months it gets relegated to window cleaning duty. If as Paul says the stuff has benzene in it then keep it off your hands. Ive been merrily french polishing ...

It wouldnt be hard to modify this method to allow for the slight angle that fan braces usually intersect the bridge patch. Im incredibly anal and use a bevel measurement taken off the brace line on the soundboard to get the notch perfect. It wouldnt be hard to transfer this bevel measurement to the ...

Seb, Most of the famous makers introduced their own variations on Torres' designs....eg number of fan braces, slanting tone bars, carrying outter fan braces through to waist area etc. A Vanilla Torres is one with 7 fan braces, upper and lower cross braces and an upper transverse brace. Cheers Martin
