Re: Crazy times
If it's any consolation...quite a number of studies have concluded that sales of musical instruments exhibit a significant increase during times of crisis. That is interesting. I have been wondering if sales will tank or people would get bored at home and buy another instrument to learn in order to...

Re: Shipping to theUSA
I send using express post, but a mandolin will fit into the max size requirements of Australia Post. Most guitar cases are too big. There are no Australian government charges, but there are value ceilings in Australia and the USA. In Australia if it is worth more than $2000 AUD you need to get an ex...

Re: Changes to Reg of International Trade in CITES
I noticed that as well. Looks like some common sense has returned, but that common sense is somewhat limited! Back and side sets - Nope Bridge blanks - Nope Fingerboard blanks - Nope Bindings - yes Bridges - yes Slotted fingerboards - yes Personally I am disappointed about back and side sets (but no...

Re: Hacked
Website is back again, with security scanning every 24hrs implemented. I never found the needle in the haystack, but I am fairly certain I know what happened. The website template uses the Bootstrap framework, a very popular utility that makes website development much easier. However, some versions ...

Re: fretboard radiusing router bits
Mmm, WAY too much stress over what should be a simple easy and quick job. I took one look at the router bit and thought NO WAY, far too dangerous, and for what? I rough out the radius on the linisher, then install the fret maker inlays, then rough out on the linisher again, then a final sand using t...

Re: Carbatec 400 mm Drum Sander Issues
.Pete have you had to change the feed belt? My problems only started when I stuck a new belt on
No. When it was new the motor was noisy and I was expecting it to fail, but with a bit more use the noise went away and has been problem free ever since.

I have one, probably close to 20 yo now. Never had a problem with the feed belt motor but I still hate changing sanding belts.

Re: Hacked
Progress. I have access back and a maintenance page is up. Now the real work starts. I been trawling through the logs and is interesting to see the hacking probes and what they are looking for, but is a needle in a haystack to pick up the actual exploit.

Re: Hacked
I don't have any beef about the sledge hammer approach. As you say, they are protecting their other users. My beef is that they advertise a 24hr support turnaround, but in practice that is some sort of a joke. Netregistry is now owned by MelbourneIT and they outsourced their call centres overseas. I...

Hacked
I discovered some weird files on my web site today and deleted them, and then changed all passwords. Just a few minutes after deleting them I got an email from the host provider saying my site had been hacked with a phishing file (now deleted) and my account had been suspended. Now I can't do anythi...

Thanks Graham. Just getting over the shock from reading your post on Facebook. Graham was my inspiration when I first started. I pested him with my early creations and he was very gracious and encouraging, even told me "when you go full time". At that particular time I thought fat chance of that hap...

Re: shed insulation
I have built two sheds and a steel framed house and we used a foil system that consists of two layers of foil and a foam layer in between. I think the R rating is 3.0, but can't remember exactly. It is only about 10mm thick so is easy to install, and you get no glass fibres on you and your clothes. ...

Yes well I have not heard from sob story single mother Sarah again. Missed out there, but also dodged a credit card fraud. I gave up my merchant facility years ago and never regretted it. Customers can still use a credit card via Paypal.

Likely Scam
Just received this. Smells strongly of an attempted scam to me. Several red flags. I replied I don't take credit cards and so far no reply. Thanks for the swift response, Â Â Â I really wish i could call the store directly, Am a single mother with a lovely girls for about three years now and sadly i...

Re: Bote-cote epoxy
So what is the crystal resin? I have been using normal resin for the boat. What is the difference? I can't find anything on their web site nor in the small book they produce, although mine is now quite old and may be out of date.

Bote-cote epoxy
I have been using the bote-cote epoxy system on a big boat restoration project I am doing and am quite impressed with it. Easier and much more pleasant stuff to use than West System. It has hardly any odour and the hardeners are completely clear of any amber tint. Should make a very good pore filler...

Re: Now more difficult to export
Who do you insure your instruments with when you ship Peter? Australia Post. They self insure so that is a very good incentive for them to treat it good in Australia. However, once it gets to the overseas country it is out of their control. Never had a problem with Australia Post, and I have sent l...

Weird, never seen anything like that before. Maybe it has been spattered with very hot water. The cloudy patch does look like heat damage to shellac.

Re: Now more difficult to export
Has anyone had the courtesy to tell you why we need this extra red tape and how it benefits the SME? Of course not. Why would Dutton's department give out reasons and benefits? Personally I think it is absolutely ridiculous to have to get permission to export small items. Any way, you all now know ...

Re: Now more difficult to export
Makes you wonder if the people who think this stuff up have any idea how a SME really works. Yes. I have wasted the best part of a day trying to get this sorted and am really pissed about it. One more thing. You need an ABN if your item is worth more than $2000. No ABN and you are toast, even if yo...

Ok, I think I have it sorted. After getting shuffled around from person to person I finally got the correct person who directed me to the correct form which I already had found on their web site. He also gave me an email to send it to instead of fronting up to a counter (yes!). Form has been sent, n...

Now more difficult to export
Today I rocked up at the local Post Office with a recently completed mandolin packed up and ready to go to the USA. Nothing out of the ordinary, I have been doing it for many years. The lady at the counter entered the details into the Aussie Post computer system, but it would not accept the item wit...

All now resolved. TNT delivered the Stew Mac package on Thursday, but it took another prod from me, and they delivered the LMI package yesterday. Phew.
