Re: sound hole bindind
Thanks Allen .
Steve , it's Sitka Spruce . A really nice well quartered piece. The whole board is covered in that 'silking '. It's exceptional
I bought the back and sides as Pommele figured African Mahogany and used it also for bindings , purflings and rosette etc.

Re: sound hole bindind
G'day Liam, My method is to inlay the binding into the soundboard before cutting out the soundhole. Leave the soundboard a little thicker than you require .Route a slot which doesn't quite reach the full thickness of the soundboard and glue the binding in. When dry , thickness the underside of the s...

Appreciate that thanks Rick . From what I can see from your list ( and referring to my original question ) , you use either thin or thick C.A. ONLY for your binding ( unless it's plastc/celluloid ). You stated earlier that you'd like your guitars to be good for two or three hundred years. You don't ...

Thanks for you views Jeremy . No, In actual fact , I don't for one moment think that Rick was' having me on ' . He did get me thinking though . That's always a good thing and I'm thankful he pointed out an aspect I hadn't thought of . Makes you rethink a process and recheck your plan of attack, so t...

Bending with Titebond 2 or 3
I'm about to bend some binding and intend glueing the side purfling before hand. Concerned about delamination , I just purchased some Titebond 3 for the job after reading a recent thread on the topic here on our forum recommending this. It's a light brown in colour and doesn't seem to dry to quite t...

We all knew you were cheap Hesh  I've found 120 to be a bit slow , so swapped to 80 and found that too coarse for my liking . very deep scoring. I'm using 100 now and find it the best of both worlds. It's quick and leaves a decent finish. I've used lots of different papers , but invariably end ...

Is that an extra veneer of spruce I see down between your heel block and the sides? . Well spotted Paul ! . Thanks a heap Jeff. I'm not to keen on a lot of cutaways either . I'll take it as a big compliment considering you normally hate cutaways . I've been calling this one a ' tucked Florentine ' . Thanks for this Allen. Simple and affective . I'll be puting it to use very shortly . I hadn't seen this jig before . Haven't got a decent table saw so I'll try it on the bandsaw. I'll check that it's having one of it's "good days" first though , and not doing the wandering blade thing . The inlay b...
