Steve,

Thanks.

I have the same feeling. There are no facial features that I can see, but it's the customer's wish, so whatcha gonna do?

This one just came off the bench. I'm going to be building more of these, hopefully one for myself. Frank,

I'm wondering if you've done a wash coat of shellac before pore filling when using LMI's water-based filler. I use that method to keep the filler from staining the non-pore wood.

Frank, I'm trying to imagine how veneering in and of itself on one surface across this narrow a span would cause this problem. There are thousands of guitars out there with veneered headstocks that aren't cupped. A wide span, like a table top, I could see it. I've had necks with headstock veneers gl...

Thanks, Matthew. It's French polish over Behlen's Rockhard Table Top Varnish. Seems to make a nice compromise with the hard varnish underlay, with a repairable top coat with the nice shellac sheen, although the Behlen's gives a very nice sheen in its own right. My customer loves the look of FP, but ...

Very nice, Allan. I got some of that EIR from Allied too. Like it very much. Here's an L-00 cutaway that I've been working on in fits and starts since last year, waiting for my customer to do the headstock inlay. It finally arrived a week ago, so it's nice to get this one going again. Glued the overl...

I lean towards minimal on my bending forms. Not as convenient as the Fox style, but I can bang one out in a an hour or so. I use 3/4" ply, or about 20 mm. I make them a bit wider than the stainless steel slats I use, plus the roof flashing I get at the hardware store is that width. I don't use a scr...

I have to disagree with my friend Hesh about pulling straight up. I've had prefer doing what seeaxe recommends, pinching with the cutters. I get less splitting doing it this way. By pinching under the frets a little bit at a time, the cutting edges of the cutter act as a wedge between the fret and t...
