Re: Spindle Sander

I've just bought a Swiss Tec Spindle Sander, great bit of kit. I've squared up all my side moulds and made a few more to boot. Should have had one ages ago. As for brands I think most of them come out of the same factory - Jet, Swiss Tec, I haven't tried it on sound board edges yet, I have a couple ...

Dust Extractor Bin

Hi,
I've just been given a 200L clip top plastic drum with the thought of making a bin to catch the larger items before they go through my Dust Extractor.
Would be grateful for any assistance on the best way to make it.
Cheers

Re: Just Finished

Hi All,
Yes its Albizia, the tree came from the Rockhampton Race Course.
I'm happy with the sound of it, although for some reason I take a while to like the sound of any new Guitar. Must be just what I have grown accustomed to.
Thanks for the kind remarks
Cheers

Re: Collecting Spectrographic data

Hi Trev, Thanks for the reply, I've been using VA and the microphone in a Logitech webcam, maybe not the best quality, but i did about a dozen or so soundboards the results all looked credible until I did a set where one half had already been thicknessed down probably too far. When I did the tap tes...

If the typical frequencies weren't in the book how would you know which one to use in the modulus calculation?

Re: Collecting Spectrographic data

Hi Trev, I haven't built any guitars since attending your course in Canberra last year. I've just finished building a new shed and now I'm back building. Just a question about tap testing, which peak do I record. I can find peaks that line up with the sample data on you spreadsheet, but they aren't ...

Re: iPad or not to iPad.....that is the question...:)

Hi All, I bought an ipad 2 for my wife last year and it hasn't left her side since. as has been mentioned its a great communications tool, very quick and easy to use. My wife went from being computer shy to a Facebook junky in a matter of weeks. I downloaded Garage band and bought a docking station ...

Timber Dressing

Hi All, Some years ago I was given a few trees (Black wattle, Dead Finish and Emu Apple) I had them cut into various thickness slabs and then stored them. I'm now thinking about dressing them into usable pieces. Whats the best tools for doing this? I was thinking of buying a Planer Jointer. Any sugg...

Hi Kim, Thanks for that link, its just what I need and looks so simple. I have bought a radius board from Stewmac which I've been using in my Go-deck. Profiling sides

Hi,
I've made a couple of Guitars but I don't think i'm getting the side profile right. I've tried the Williams method and found it a bit hit and miss and I was recently given a set of Stew Plans which showed the sides cut to the profile before being bent.
Can someone help me with this??
Cheers

Re: Bunya tree (what interest?)

After the tree is dropped and, If the timber looks good, would it be possible just to split it in to wedges long enough for tops and braces, coat the ends and sell them off like that ? That's better all round, the end user then decides the final size and use. Has anyone ever used Bunya for an Arch ...
