I absolutely agree with this method. I don't build many acoustic 12s, but when I do, they get 6 pins and 12 slots. On my Renaissance semi-hollow 12s, we run six holes through the body for the strings, and then we use 3/32" (just under 2.5 mm)brass pins to separate the string pairs behind the saddle....

I agree with the above, and the answer to the question posed as the thread title is "YES."

The most moisture resistant of the modern polymers we use on wood are epoxies, hence their use in boat building. Not even polyester can prevent moisture migration and is itself degraded when in water...the dreaded fiberglass/polyester blistering that happens on boats. Hadn't though of that re. super...

One other issue...we shouldn't take too seriously the experience of piano makers or repair techs. Pianos have much broader cross grain distances, and so the stresses built up when pianos go through humidity changes are much worse than we deal with on guitar tops. There is much more shear stress on b...

In the first place, there is a better alternative to "yellow glue", and that is the LMI white glue. It's just as easy to use and it exhibits less "cold creep" than typical yaller carpenter's glue. Second, this idea that moisture will penetrate wood and degrade hot hide glue joints is just nuts. If i...

Sata guns are the best. I've been using an NR-95 and a Mini-Jet for about 15 years now, and all you have to do is replace the parts that wear out from time to time. Even when the thing is way past rebuild time, it sprays well. These are "buy once" items.

The reason it's so profitable must have to do with an incredible land grab or give away. And from what I've been told, Peter Garrett signed off (sold out?) on the pulp mill long ago. Some greens rot and turn brown...

This chipping it up, burning it, turning it into paper bull s..t has simply got to stop. It's a horrible waste of timber that if not good for guitars and other instruments, can certainly be turned to better uses. I'm horrified by this practice of treating all trees as garbage.
