Changes to Reg of International Trade in CITES
I was looking at 'StewMac' Rosewood timber Back & Sides Sets today and noticed that no warning came up regarding exporting it to Australia. I Googled to find out more and from the 26th November 2019, you no longer need CITES permits to import or export rosewood, refer to link. https://www.environmen...

Re: Trevor Gore Course- Principles of Modal Tuning
Anyone tries Trevor's online course at O'Brien Gutiars? I recently purchased the online video series from Robbie O'Brien and found them was very helpful explaining some of the setup aspects related to modular tuning and VA setup requirements after reading the Gore / Gilet books. Re: Ebony and Red Cedar 000
Thanks Martin for answering my questions. I am planning to build my first falcate mid body size with a 12 fret body joint. All my guitars that have built so far have been 'X' braced that include a Macassar Ebony Bridge that weigh around 32grams. I like the clarity and dynamic range that I have heard...

Re: Ebony and Red Cedar 000
I noticed Martin from your excellent photos that the 14th fret is at the body joint instead of the 12th fret that is generally applied with falcate bracing. Hope you don't mind if you could provide some background in regards to: Were adjustments required to the falcate bracing layout in view of the ...

Re: Ebony and Red Cedar 000
A great looking guitar!
I like the timber combinations. Did you have any issues working with the Australian Red Cedar timber being very soft? What was the final thickness of the Top? Like here a sound sample if possible.

Searching for Carbon Fiber for a Falcate Guitar Build
I am planning on building my first Falcate Bracing Guitar using Gore/Gilet Design/Build Books. At this stage I am searching for the specifications for the Carbon Fiber Tape Weave used for the bracing, the Carbon Fiber Bridge Patch and the recommended places to purchase these items. Where can it be p...

Foil skin 2. 30 mm thickness industrial foam sheeting (Very efficient insulator, can be purchased in various thickness, depending on the level of in...

As mentioned, I would recommend more passes at a thinner rate and more regularly cleaning of the drum sand paper with an 'Abrasive Belt And Disc Cleaning Stick'. I get my cleaning sticks from 'Carbatec'.

Welcome Dave to the forum. I like your workshop.
The guitar build looks great. Nice looking fingerboard timber grain that gives an interesting character to the guitar.

Re: Guitar top and back radius position
Sanding the radius into the sides by "driving the porcelain bus" is an absolute pain in the arse job. There was one builder in the US who had rigged up his sanding dish on a potters wheel. He got the wheel turning and then just held the sides down on the dish and hey presto. It's something I plan t...

Re: Guitar top and back radius position
I agree that laminated side linings definitely for the top is recommended and also for the back side linings is good (kerfing lining for the back is still ok). The closed box is structural stronger and helps reflecting sound back on the top as explained in the Gilet / Trevor Gore books. If you check...

Re: Semihollow fifteen inch
Sides and solid linings are bent and laminated and the top is ready to be jointed/quote]
Like the laminated lining design / construction that will ultimately be part of a great guitar body with strength and quality.

Re: Guitar top and back radius position

In the stages before the sides are bent and fitted into the guitar mold re: sanding the sides using a rad...

I agree you need to be careful with dust and especially fine dust from shell. I use a mask and set up a dust extractor pipe near the pearl cutting slabs when making inlays.

I learnt from a John Hall you tube video re: using a router for binding channels on acoustic guitars that he recommended putting tape around the edges to minimise potential splits and tear outs. I take this precaution hopefully to avoid these kin...
