Dennis, Good one! If I was clever I would have a good response. I did want to ask what Cad program you used for your drawing back on page 4, looks similar to the Turbo-Cad that I use. One thing I did learn from that post, is you stated that you adjusted the neck down 1 deg. This is correct when you ...

Dennis, When you say this: It is true that I GREATLY prefer women that wear high heels to men that wear high heels. Im not sure if I am relieved or a bit nervous. Sounds like you are not opposed to men that wear high heels.  Keep in mind I live in a small town, the majority of the people...

Allen, I am glad the simple drilling jig worked for you. Im sure you will find ways to improve it. Craig,Dennis, Some of us prefer the look of the wide rounded heel (like me) Is it better than the stiletto style? No, it is just what I like. Dennis likes them because they remind him of a women's high...

Dave,

You never cease to amaze me, quite impressive!
I just love all the details, great aesthetics.
And I did notice the curly x-brace cap on the back brace.
Beautiful doubleneck. Martha's a luck girl to have a father like you.
Im sure the smile on her face would have to be priceless.
Bravo!!!

Rick, Let me start by saying I have a respect for your contributions. I admit I am biased, I am in my 39th year and "cut my teeth" as a repairman. Handling vintage builds may be the best education a luthier may ever have. I did reach a level of respect that by the 80's I would only accept vintage bu...

Craig, In response to your last comment to me in regards to the 3/8" steel rod in the neck heel. (Rick's design) I thought of the weight first and the tooling to accurately drill and tap those holes second. I was trained as a machinist in my early teenage years, so drilling and tapping the holes is ...

Craig, Well said, where just swapping ideas. The picture depicts what I felt Rick had described as the way his Adj. system would look. Since Rick uses 3/4" baltic birch for a neck block. It may be a trade off as for what total weight may be. I do like your ferrule, more to protect the hole, and it do...

Rick, I tend to agree with you, luthiers worry more about things (Im guilty) than our customers would even think or concern themselves with. And as far as I know, the perfect guitar that everyone loves, has not been built yet. We all have our own views that we feel is the best, but lets face it, you...

Rick, Thanks for jumping in on this thread. I assume the reason for welding your 3/8" steel dowel to the truss rod, would be so you could pre-drill and tap the 3/8" steel dowel before it is installed into the heel, is this correct? My other interest would be, the lower adjusting bolt threaded insert...

Dennis, I do have to agree with Dave's comment on Grant's design, simple yet effective. I take forever to settle on any design, and my only concern would be the spring itself, fatigue for one, and also possible "whammy" effect. I do feel I am splitting hairs with this concern, and just take it as me...

Allen, A trick to center round stock for drilling. Chuck the round stock in the drill press lower it down into the drill vise. tighten vise and secure vise to drill table. Release the round stock from the drill chuck, insert drill bit, drill hole. No vise or way to clamp down vise, do this. Take a p...

Craig, I am glad you see what I was trying to explain. And yes you are correct 1 deg. of angle change would have to be considered dramatic. your calculations on this are correct. I made it 1 deg. so that the alignment change would be easier to see. Also the fact that you will only have 10mm of the b...

Craig, Your brass insert sample looks great, nice quality look. If it was me i would go with the top pivot adjustment screws as you show in your Neckblock drawing "B". I feel it would be tricky to be able to adjust the bolt as shown in Headblock "A" One hand inside the soundhole holding a wrench (an...

Allen, Your statement: "the only way were going to be sure that it works is to actually build it." This says it all, it is the proof of the pudding. Craig, You do understand my concept correctly. And I did think of using two screws left and right of the wooden plug, good catch there. I also had felt one screw pushing on one edge of a tight fitting plug would also have a binding affect. And to show two screws I would have to draw an end view to s...

Craig,

I did address the wear issue, please notice the counterbore behind the screw that holds in the wooden plug. This allows for the wear at the slip washers, to be adjusted. It is hard to see but it is there.

Cheers mate!

Here's one more idea to consider. This takes the pressure off of the small allen head of the bolt, which I believe would wear quickly. This drawing is not to scale just a concept. I have tried to keep it simple and clean looking. There is no reason a pair of nuts could not be used in place of the pi...

I like both of the projects in that link, nice builds!
Thanks for posting this.
I really like the shop, I just would not want to have to share it.
I could clutter all the benchs by myself in about a week or so.

I never did take a pic of the front of that guitar.

Hesh,
Not only no website, no computer!

He has a network of stores that sell his builds, over 250 Acoustic and electric builds as of last year. So no newbie here.

Dave, Like Dennis, I am confused by your "Dog" statement. Of course you could look at it as, a dog is man's best friend. I do like what I see so far, I am a big fan of your unique builds. On the subject of "rear end" theme guitars! Here is one, a friend of mine built. http://www.mcguitars.com.au/php...

Dave,

Yes, I was asking about the large spruce bridge plate, I can't recall
seeing one like that before. Since you refer to it as a Bridge plate,
I would reason, the intent is to stiffen the top in what could be a weak area in a ladder braced top.

The Mahogany sure "pops" under finish, just stunning!

Joe's finish work is superb, give him a thumbs up for me.
