For Craig L.....
Right guys. Craig's doing the chemo thing and he's lost his much beloved locks. I dont see why he should be the only one with a lovely shiney nut so I got busy with the trusty Veritas blockie and gave myself a quick trim. Anyone else up for a show of support for our mate? Shave your nut and post up ...

Probably a stupid question but if using HHG for fixing a top/back to sides is such a major operation then what is the advantage of doing it this way over using Titebond? I know some of you will say ease of undoing the glue joint but Ive undone Titebond back/side joints on one of my guitars twice and...

Okay Ive just finished pore filling the other half of the rosewood back using pumice after putting on two spit coats of 1lb shellac. To be honest after spending the same time with the pumice as I did with the egg whites the pumice gives a better result. Pic attached are taken after three body sessio...

4mm is a bit too thick for a top.....2.5mm is average thickness for my sitka, englemann and Lutz tops. I wouldnt get too obsessed with the tap tone of the wood.....I think you'll find that once you get the bracing on the tap tone will change quite significantly. Then after the top gets glued onto th...

Playing Around with Egg White Pore Filling
No guitar building going on in the shop today but I did have a play around with egg whites as a pore filler. I got some Indian Rosewood and sanded back to 220 grit. Pore filling procedure was then as follows: 1. apply egg white to small area of wood with paint brush. 2. sand area with 320 grit paper...

Cheers Martin I'd really like to try Coco it's beautiful stuff and really floats my boat, but as I've said before, I'm allergic to just about every bloody thing. They used...

Dominic - if there's enough interest in a group buy of Cocobolo I don't mind putting it together. We'd be needing at least 10 sets to make it viable and Coco isn't exactly cheap. Prices range from $125-250USD depending on size and figure. Once we get 10 takers I'll squeeze Uncle Bob on a price and ...
