Re: Hi tech fret installation.
If fretting off the neck how do you go with glueing. The board would be bowed a little bit, I just wonder if you then level it (the bottom of the fret board) or just clamp it all down. Kim, do you glue the board to a fully shaped/sized neck or glue it and then shape/size the neck? Do you leave two f...

I picked up a packet each of the g, f and quick action ones. Couldn't believe the amount of people in te store. They would make a killing with not having to pack shelves etc Will see how they go. Not expecting great things but I had some dearer quick action and they were crap would be nice if these ...

I put heroine in the lacquer. Every client comes back for more. Catwoman? Heroin may be more addictive although Halle Berry did play catwoman. For those interested I picked up 20L of 100% IMS for $80. I think the standard stuff is about $60 for 20L so not bad at all. What grit do most manufactures ...

Re: Finally Finished
I would say that it is finely finished as well.
I reckon it is a great shape and looks the goods as well. From the pictures I think anyone would be proud of that guitar, being a first build makes it something else.

HI Bill,
That is a neat idea. I used a drawknife that was made out of a file in a similar fashion
No problem at all Bruce actually it is very welcome, we are all here to learn.

It is my father who teaches me. He has been making guitars full time for over 20 years and doesn't use rasps or files but has quite a collection. He said he was taught to use chisels etc and that rasps were for beginner wood workers who dont have full control and that you have more control with a ch...

Thanks all.
I dont think the little HNT is for me. I may just stick with what I have or make one. I have been taught/instructed to not use rasps and never felt the need to use them.
thanks for the input

Hi All,
I am after a new spoke shave. It will be used only for neck carving and body carves on electrics.
There is the group order on the wood working forum for the HNT Gordon but I have never seen any of their gear. Would also make a kit if the veritas is good.
thanks,

This is something that occasionally plays on my mind. I live in an area that does get bush fires and I often think what I would do if the wood caught on fire.kiwigeo wrote:No not my tonewood stash as some of you would hope.

Re: workbench finish
Your bench is like any other tool. Use it. Scratchs, dents, over drilling all get bogged and polished. The main thing is to keep it flat and clean. By clean I mean the beach top won't mark your job. The bench I've been using for 30 years has more character and patina than my new one will ever get f...

Re: workbench finish
My work benches are MDF with a sacrifical layer of masonite tacked on top. When the masonite gets chewed up I just rip it up and tack down a new layer. The benches in the garage are chipboard with cheap arse polyeurathane slapped on top. Same here but they are hardwood frame benches with pine on to...

I accidentally sent you a PM instead of replying to this thread. Here it is. Actually you are right Martin.
The benedetto would be like a humbucker so would need the bar taking out. I was thinking singlecoil.

Re: Loss of volume
If it is just a magnet that has lost magnetism they can be re-magnatized. Who's going to do that?? Cheaper for the manufacturer to simply issue a replacement pickup than freight it back to the US, service it and freight it back to Australia. The freight alone would probably cover a large part of co...

Re: Small volume epoxy technique
207 if I remember correctly is a finishing epoxy not so much of a structural glue. It doesnt yellow over time like the 205 and 206 do. 206 is the slow hardener. 209 is even slower. A few hints (these are from using epoxy for other things not guitars so could be different) Dont mix the epoxy in small...

Do notes along the b string change anything?
It sounds as if a pole piece has needs re magnetising but it appears the pickup doesnt actually have magnetic pole pieces.
Is it possible to split the coil and see if the same thing occurs?

Re: Fret scale jig...
You could always buy a pre slotted fretboard.
I use a jig and do them on the table saw. Takes about 3 minutes to cut one. Any scale can be used.

In general,
Bull Oak is very very hard, harder than Cooktown Ironwood.
Taffy can you cut a piece and see if it floats?
Bob, Did you buy that as Bulloak? Looks a lot like Forest Sheoak and the hardness would make sense. Do you know where its from?
