I think I still have one of those. Nearly as big as an old Army Walkie Talkie! Most of the weight was the, 20 min, battery. After a few charges, it wasn't even that good. You also had to charge it nearly every day. I think mine had, something like, an 8 hour on time, max. I don't use my current one ...

It's really nice to read the thoughts of an individual with some knowledge. It really shows how the "media" can inflame, no pun intended, a situation.

I have bent bindings and purflings glued with HHG, Fish Glue, Titebond Original, Elmer's Glue All, LMI White, and Old Brown Glue. I have even watered some of them down when laminating purfling layups, like wheat, etc. They all bend just fine. The only issues I have had were when I tried to glue up t...

This is how the one I bought on ebay for about $12.00 looks. Simple enough. Ambient air, dry thermometer, and wick with a bottle of water and an air passage for the wet bulb. I just put mine in the path of the fan I keep running in my shop all the time. I have two separate charts, and use the averag...

Mine is just a top added to my solera, when I need it. Goes up and comes down in minutes. Never takes up shop space, unless I'm gluing something.

I more in tune with Hesh on this trip. Ervin give plenty of credit to his mentors in his book, and he footnotes information he has gained from others. He also quotes others frequently, and give the credit where it's due. He never says his way is the only way, as a matter of fact, he says there are m...

Thanks, all! Hesh, if you recall, I was working on a prototype headstock for my first and posted it on OLF, and got some tips. I think the tips helped me make it a good design, vs a ho hum one. I get comments on it from everyone who looks at my guitars. It makes me very happy! :D I especially apprec...

Thanks guys. Allen, the 20th fret was an afterthought on my #2 guitar, and I liked it, so I put it on this one too. It was something I did, on a lark, after reading a discussion on one of the forums, and having a friend who plays a good bit, ask me if I would consider it. The way I did it, was just ...

Waddy Thomson's Third Guitar Finished

I finished up #3 over the weekend. It's another Romanillos inspired Classical with the following: B/s - Bubinga Top - Lutz Spruce Neck - Spanish Cedar Bindings - Bloodwood Fingerboard - Ebony Bridge - Mad Rose Tuning Machines - Rubner Scale - 650 mm This one sounded really good right off the bench. ...

I'm with Hesh! I have been taking my time going through "The Responsive Guitar", and find it to be very informative. Ervin is good at making you understand how to think more than giving a good blueprint. He tells you how he measures things and why, but doesn't give the numbers. I am really liking hi...

Yeah, but the strings aren't red. I'm not sure what those would be. D'Addario has a pretty good set of medium strings in the EJ45's. Nice trebles - good strong basses, and not all that expensive. My experience with the Savarez Corum strings is that they sound great, but don't last very long. If you ...

I haven't ordered much, but my dealings with Cedar Creek have been great too. Their current process, due to some problems they have had, includes a call to confirm that the CC information is correct, and get approval for the final charge as the case actually goes into production. Their turnaround is...

Nice job, Dave. Beautiful guitar. I'm curious though, isn't the strap button on the heel, on the wrong side? Seems, most guitars I see, it's on the other side, so the strap pulls against the heel, and sideways against the button. Maybe it's a preference thing, and I just don't know what I'm talking ...

You guys talk like white is not a natural color. Ever used Holly, Sycamore Dogwood, or Willow? Take a look at Romanillos' guitars. Plenty of thin, white, lines, all natural wood. Mostly planed off planks by him. http://www.anzlf.com/phpBB2/userpix/94_ad9b_3_1.jpg The slight yellowish tint comes from...

A soldering iron will work, but they are very slow to heat, and difficult to control, unless you have a control unit. They don't like the router speed controls very much. I was using a soldering iron on my bending iron, but switched to a Charcoal starter, like Arnt. It is awesome. Very quick to heat...

I actually like the spokeshave. It's great for trimming sides, and for shaping the neck, up to a point.

Video of Waddy's First Build

Watching Robbie's videos got me wondering how that works, so I decided to try putting some of the pictures from ny first build in video format with the music in the background from the clip of my first guitar. It was a fun project, and not as hard to do as I thought. It's a bit long - 10 minutes, an...
