I prime both surfaces with hide glue. then position the top on the sides and clamp lightly all around. I loosen three clamps at a time and work in a bit of hot hide glue on a thin palette knife blade, then clamp tight and loosen the next few clamps, working my way around. Matthew - is that just a t...

Ano, ano ... pěkná

I really don't need any more orphans in my ebay watching list this week but that does look very mojo-laden.

Relax Matthew ... :) I wouldn't dream of casting nasturtiums on your favourite squeezes. It's killing me that I can't get my cruddy old plywood Höfner up here to practice on in Brisbane ... Do you know of a cheap way to transport a Double Bass interstate ? I just don't 'get' acoustic bass guitars, ...

From what I've seen Allen you've got the skills to make a scroll headstock, no worries ... I just started carving and stopped when it looked about right. I've got scale drawings for the headstock somewhere. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j175/ap404/headstock.jpg Mine is a relica of the old Ampeg ...

Wow, I urge anyone here who hasn't heard this yet to give it a whirl ( with headphones; those little mandos barking thru computer speakers just don't do themselves justice ) I saw Compton in Melbourne 3 years ago playing to an audience of maybe 70-80 people ( there was one microphone up there, but h...

Dave, it wasn't until I sat watching this little clip that I realised the etymology of your guitarmaking name 'De Faoite'. Call me slow ... It helps if I don my best crap -Irish accent and try saying it out loud. BTW I didn't really mean to post twice ( above ) it makes a bad pun worse with the repe...

My dear old dad's got the mighty Durden jointer/table saw combo, right next to his Durden woodlathe. I used it tonight to true up a few chunks of QLD maple and love it. It is one solid piece of Australian made gear. He has had direct contact with the company recently in SA ( ? ) and has bought ancie...

Thanks for this report ! The case looks great. And they already knew what a Martin size 5 looks like! I believe an OM case or similar would significantly increase the shipping costs involved ( based on my experience with USPS size restrictions to Australia ). Your size 5 case may have surprised even...

I love these voyeuristic 'what are you up to ?' threads ...

Stephen the way the line of the butt inlay continues around onto the back of that guitar body is such an elegant, simple solution. Impressive!

Hmmm ... If you had to be stuck on a deserted island with just one other bloke, your best choice would have to be Frank Ford. A few thoughts ... If you're into cat-eye sound holes; have a 'google' at german 'mandolines' esp. Höfner and Framus 1950's mandos, many of which have bound cat eyes. They can look quite elegant ( when they resist the temptation to cut cat-eyes AND round holes on the same instrument ... ) And remem...
