   you are so right - or drew on the top. but oh man, he can play. Being a huge fan I have always coveted a maton 808 signature series. Of topic but….so I went into a leading guitar retailer here in NSW to check one out and potentially make some sort of purchase. I just could believe ...

Hey Bob, Just beautiful work……….like always and a great inspiration. The thing that I like just as much are the photography skills and the creatively that goes into your shots. As someone who photographs others guitars for their websites, I really appreciate the effort that goes into this. In your m...

Re: Fretting Exotic (Aussie native timber) Boards
I have used figured Jarrah on electric necks for fingerboards and never had an issue – and I used tiny little frets (I like them – others don’t). It worked great and the Jarrah darkens nicely. Just a bit of titebond and all good.

Re: Tassie Blackwood neck
Hi John, Matthews Timbers they are located in St Marys in Sydney's west - they wont go through it for you but will let you go through it if you 'know' them - I am just polite and keep out of their way. If you go, just ask to have a poke around out the back – there are pretty good guys. They don’t se...

Re: Tassie Blackwood neck
Hey Chalks, We are in the process of building about four different acoustics using Blackwood for the necks. As the others have noted, there seems to a dramatic difference in weight in some of the pieces- so I would select myself. Some of them are really quite heavy. We have had a few pieces come fro...

great job Pete, among other things I really like the headstock-simple and elegant. Your finishing skills look great! Being a little more shallow how does it sound?

I just have to say Craig, that I love the bridge design - such understated elegance! I keep coming back to this thread just to have a look at it.
I might borrow the idea if that is OK?

Thanks Martin, that is really nice of you to point that out. I really just want because it is by haynes and I have spent hours with them trying to fix my cars. I like the synergy.

it actually didn't hurt - i pretty much went straight into shock. I was at my best buddy's (more like a brother) workshop (Epic Guitars) - I am now 'banned' from the big boy for 6 months. Ha ha ha. Apparently economists should not be using heavy machinery.

Big Boy sanders and fingers don't mix
Whist I think the subject line says it all, here is a photo from last week when I used a poorly designed jig, a big boy sander, some beautifully quartered blackwood from Tim and a lapse of judgement. I was honing in a 15 degree cut for a scarf joint when it went horribly wrong. This photo wa...

Hey Nick,
Warren Adams from epic guitars offers these courses. I have built a couple of electrics under Warrens instruction that are just amazing. I can provide his phone number if you like.

Yeah, that's them, PNG rosewood. Good trees to grow fast and crack slabs (speaking from experience). Thanks mate.

Hey Jim, I spent about 13 years in Darwin and only left for Sydney about 2 years ago. Are African Mahogany those trees that are all over Palmerston that grow quickly, have invasive roots, with smallish leaves and look a little like weeping willows?

Re: Does bracing need to be quarter sawn?
Thanks all for your advice, I will post pictures. To be honest the grain is all over the place with the bracing and the curvature on the neck block is bordering on 90 degrees. I just wanted to make sure first as the timber was purchased from a well known supply house and don't want to tread on any t...

Re: Does bracing need to be quarter sawn?
Thanks Jim, i might be able to get away with it, I don't think I will know until I start cutting. I guess I was a little more surprised than anything, given that I purchased the timber for this purpose and all the timber I purchased previously has been perfectly quartered. Thanks again Jim.
