Re: Kootenay Tonewood
With out wanting to start a wildfire, I am grateful that martin (or mutant, as my phone's spellcheck wanted to call him) made the offer. I see it the same as if I recommended a mechanic to a mate (and recommended him alot), if he wasn't doing the right I would want to know so I could either stop rec...

Re: Kootenay Tonewood
Yeah mate - the quality issue was sorted. I still deal with this supplier relatively regularly. I have found that the vast majority of their product to be excellent, as I mentioned the service can leave a bit to be desired sometimes. But overall I keep using this supplier - so on balance it mustn't ...

Re: Kootenay Tonewood
For what it is worth -and that might not be much. But I thought it was good to see another type of review of a tonewood supplier. I for one have purchased wood from a preferred supplier and in some cases the service was terrible and the product was unsuitable. Admittedly they fixed the issue but it ...

Re: Advice on using king billy for a classical top
Thanks Bob, a classical it is!
I had read all the posts I could but must have missed that one about the classicals.
How do you think it will go with a figured blackwood bridge? Or do you think I should go with something more traditional, like rosewood?

Advice on using king billy for a classical top
Hi All, I am after some quick advice.... I have a beautiful piece of king billy that I would like to use, and noting that there is a lot of recommendations to use blackwood B/S with king billy, I purchased one of Tim's master grade sets. Now I had planned on building steel string (808 size), but was...

Re: Looking for a nice guitar in New Zealand
Hi JeffZ, have a look at Nick's work I think that he is also in Christchurch. I don't think that you could go wrong - just my opinion - I am just in love with his work and particularly some of his finishing touches. I was only admiring this (again!) last night. http://www.anzlf.com/viewtopic.php?f=2...

Re: carbon fibre acoustics - my rant....
thanks Nick,
Actually I don't know if I like the sound it was more an issue of how closed minded some people can be. And I must say that the vast and overwhelming majority of the people in this forum do not fall into this category.
As I mentioned just a rant

carbon fibre acoustics - my rant....
Hi all, I should note that I have no affliation with any company or maker noted below - nor their distributors etc... I was just curious about you guys think about of the growing presence of carbon fibre (CF) and composite acoustics. My interest was pricked by the stuff that rainsong are putting out...

But as you mentioned Simso, you don't know the other side of the story.
Good luck mate.

Simso, I don't mean to be rude, but are you serious or having a joke - that was actually a repair?

Re: Question 1 - String gauge and scale length.
Thanks Kim,
As I mentioned, it had been swirling around and was started by two of my primary guitars which are different scales. Thanks for the advice and guidance.

Quesiton 2 - moving the x brace
Ok here is my second silly question.... Holding all other things constant, what effect if any will moving the x bracing foward or backward have on the bass response of the instrument. I think I remember reading somewhere that the bass response will be increased/decreased by moving the X forward/back...

Question 1 - String gauge and scale length.
I was curious if the collective wisdom could provide some guidance… I started with the assumption that I would like to achieve the ‘biggest, fullest’ acoustic sound possible but I have a strong preference for a given string tension. So assuming a constant string tension, what would sound bigger, a s...

It will be interesting to see if they try and enforce it as santa cruz and some larivees use the same straight line

Re: What is wrong with this Martin Guitar
You are right Paul, I went to a large music store to buy a maton 808 - the tommy emmanuel signature series. It retails for about $3K. Not because I like maton's particularly, but because I am huge tommy fan and I am at that point where I could do it. I picked it up looked inside and over the instrum...
