Re: Zircote and Sirian Tenor Ukulele
very nice Allen! :D And nice composition with the photos – you and Bob make the rest of us look like hacks with a camera. Surian Cedar – is that the same as Australian Red Cedar? I have a found some references that say it is the same and others that say it is different. Apprently it is 'Cedre...

I know that this thread has been passed a while ago but after having looking at Christian's work I just had to comment.
Christian, you joinery and inlay is just amazingly tidy - surgical precision! Bravo Sir.

Re: What is this very dense purple(ish) imported timber?
purple heart...I originally thought of that but the grain is not fine like purple heart. Hence my suggestion of wenge - but wenge is not purple.
It is actually Purhenge - a very little known of timer.

Re: New Guitar building book from Gerard Gilet
I just re-read my last post and thought that I should clarify. It seems that the library has a copy according to their catalogue - I was suggesting that I should look over this before my copy arrives – not in lieu of purchasing my own.

Re: New Guitar building book from Gerard Gilet
I am itching to get my hands on a copy. We have a student builder guitar in the workshop at the moment which is loosely based on Trevor's falcate bracing - just using what can be seen on the web. This thing just rings like a bell when tapped. I can't wait to get strings on it. More to the point, I c...

1978 Maton 808 - neck troubles and plans
At the moment there is a 1978 Maton BG808 sitting in the workshop in a state of disrepair. It needs a neck reset and is a little rough around the edges. According to Maton, 1978 is the first year that they were made – and people ‘believe’ that the older ones sound better than the newer ones (of cour...

Re: Aust Red Cedar ( Toona Ciliata) Soundboard
good to know. I am in the planning stage of a classical build - all australian woods and was stuck for the neck wood - obviously Qld Maple had floated to the top so to speak - but now will do some more work on the potential of ARC. Although I have some Spanish cedar floating around I didn't really w...

Re: Interesting concept from the Montreal Guitar Show
thanks for the link Nick.
I like the concept, but I not too sure if I like the idea of the 'one screw' neck. I think that I would be more comfortable removing the strings to change the insert and have a more solid neck joint.

Re: Kootenay Tonewood
The crux of the matter is whether or not the admin consider to have legitimacy to act as a 3rd party mediator and if so where that legitimacy comes from. Liam, I think that 'legitimacy' is largely a result of vendors accepting 'preferred status'. In 99.99% of cases I am sure that if there was a pro...
