Does bracing need to be quarter sawn?
I am currently laying out my timber for my first acoustic build and was hoping that you can provide some advice on what needs to be quarter sawn. I am using bunya top and bracing, my question is should the bunya bracing be quarter sawn? Also, should the neck block also be quarter sawn? The reason th...

Hi All, I just came across this link on the wood working forum and thought that you might enjoy reading this as much as I. Apologies if this has been posted here before - I did a search but could only find discussion of the report (before it was finished) but not a llink to it. here is the original ...

Hi Frank, I hope that the move went well. I spent 13 years in NT, first 5 years as a soldier, the rest employed as an economist in the NT government. It will be a bit humid this time of the year - but come the dry season, it will be great building weather. Fishing is great up that way as well.

advice on material selection for my first build...
Hi All, As some of you know I am in the process of my first acoustic build. I have got the vast majority of my wood coming from Tim and Xray (who have both been a pleasure to deal with). I thought that I would ‘design’ my build before I commenced – here is what I have so far… OM style guitar (for fi...

Hi All, I am new to the forum, so sorry if I am speaking out of place but I was just short of ordering wood from this supplier. I agree with both Tim and Kim. In that we are all probably big enough and ugly enough (some more than others) to decide whether we want to engage this supplier – however, I...

Re: hi, I am new to the fourm.
Thanks for all the great comments and advice. I appreciate the comments and references to Gerard and his course – I met him a year or so ago at a woodworking show in Sydney and he seemed a really nice and approachable guy. Whilst his courses are very flexible and I have only heard good things, I am ...

Tommy Emmanuel did a similar thing in Circular Quay in Sydney a few years back for a morning television show – although he was dressed in disguise with a fake beard etc… Tommy got a huge crowd within minutes and made a few hundred dollars which he donated to charity. This was shown live on air. It j...

Re: hi, I am new to the fourm.
Thanks for the warm welcome and all the advice. To be honest, I had only selected those woods on the basis of the research that I had done (looking at the current Gibson acoustic specs, magazine articles etc…). Given your advice, I will think that Sikita and Indian Rosewood would be a wiser choice. ...

Hi All, I would just like to introduce myself. I couldn’t find an ‘introductions’ sections so just posted here – mainly because this is my main interest. I apologise if I have posted this in the wrong spot – I am new to posting in forums. About me… I like to think of myself as a fingerstyle guitaris...
