Re: Bowl back mandolin

Thanks for that Martin. Don't have a classical style bending iron. Don't think I'd be permitted to lay out the readies to buy one. Could get the grandson to fabricate a Turkish type. Out of interest, would steam bending be delitirious to the finished instrument? Mind, the ribs would be well dried b...

Steam bending isn't necessary unless the wood you're bending is thick and won't yield on a bending iron with a spritz of water. I assume you're laying up rib sections over an internal mould as you'd do for a lute? The rib sections will only need to be around 2-3mm thick to be able to be bent on an i...

Re: Tough times for suppliers?

Whoever has bought Stewmac needs to throttle back on the advertising emails....three in one day.

I hope Stewmac continue supporting Robbie Obrien now that LMI is about to be no more.

Tough times for suppliers?

Anyone else noticed an uptick in frequency of Stewmac advertising in the email in box? Im getting two a day now.

Must be getting a bit tough in the luthier supply business?

Hi, I’m even lazier, I use a window too… but it’s still in the wall at the back of the bench. I can only shoot my boards in the daylight. :D
Taff
Park your Landcruiser outside your window with the headlights on full beam and you'll be able to candle tops all night long!!

Re: **** Stewmac special on European Spruce *****

My tops arrived today. Grain count is fairly low as you'd expect for a low grade top. One of the three tops had some black material on the surface. Thought it was mold but the way it came off in the drum sander suggests otherwise. Overall assessment.....the Stewmac grading is a bit optimistic compar...
