Re: RIP David Bowie
Think I wore the grooves out of my copy of "Heroes", especially the title track, the volume knob bounced off the stops when I cranked that track up. Wasn't so struck on his latest stuff but still an innovator to the last.

Brilliant as usual Allen, love that Sassafras. You nailed that butt end joint too, you're certainly starting to get the hang of this building lark aren't you!

Re: Bandsaw advice
Unless you intend only cutting up to a maximum of 6mm thick material don't even consider table top saws, before the wealth of info and advice that was available on the internet (we're talking pre-internet here!) I mistakenly bought one when I started down this crazy path, worst purchase I ever made!...

Re: Current Build - Falcate Braced Multiscale OM cutaway
Don't usually make 'new years resolutions' but I must get around to reading "the books" this year  (they've been sitting in their boxes for far too long!), that's a beautiful looking joint and stronger that a brick outhouse by the looks. Have you only just removed the sealing layer of Shellac ...

Re: Just can't believe my eyes.
If the customer bought it new then I'd be suggesting he takes it back and either asks for a replacement or his $ back. I'm not sure whether these companies (in the current economic climate, as they say) have laid off the quality control guy in an effort to save money or hired cheaper labour when I s...

Re: Arch top structural challenge
Hey Chalks, long time no hear! Which way have you got your neck block grain orientation? if you've got it orientated so that the end grain is facing the back and front plates then it could possibly be a faulty glue joint with the back plate.

Re: The zero fret
Suits guitars built in a factory environment where slapping in a zero fret takes less skill than working up a nut. Probably quite right there Martin, Maccaferri was like the Henry Ford of guitars, his thinking when setting up production at Selmer, was to have as much made by using jigs so that anyb...

Handy conversion chart for the engineers amongst us
Here's a quick and easy conversion chart I formulated for engineers (using "officially recognized" engineering terms) when removing material.

This guitars been apart more times than Richard Burton & Elizabeth Taylor and had more work done than Joan Rivers!
I'm enjoying this build though Martin, warts and all, it's a great learning tool for beginners and older hands alike.

Re: hardwood uke top
Here's a Uke I made a couple of years ago using a Mahogany top, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHswarzWhc8 As Allen pointed out, it has that more traditional Hawaiian Uke sound, I'm not sure about Cocobolo though that's 'harder' still, again as Allen said (he is the Uke master after all, he's the wi...

Excellent job Wayne for a 'firsty', what style of bracing did you go with (X or parallel) and have you achieved the tone you were after?
What is the brand of tailpiece? I know Benedetto used one in a talk he gave and did name it I think but it's been some years since I watched the DVD.

no oxygene means no oxygene aka Vacuum without air a fire cant breath and therefor dies, or in this case does not start so in my book "torrefication" means drying the wood by burning it in a vacuum add air to the process and you might end up with "terrification" rather ;) best j Not completely corr...

Re: Elsie-May dread cutaway build
All of that sounds like a whole lot of messing around compared to simply putting a few pieces of tape on! Once you've done it a few times it becomes a very quick operation (doesn't take that long to cut out a rough circle with a pair of scissors) compared to trying to get those last couple of bits ...
