Re: Spindle switch
Ah - I thought that may be the model you were referring to. It is older so I may not be able to assist, but will certainly check for you. Unfortunately that won't be until next week as I'm away interstate this week. I'll let you know the outcome either way, in due course. Cheers, Jeremy. Any luck f...

Re: Spindle switch
I happened to see this :D Post a photo (or PM me) of the switch/box and the entire machine. It's probably a 3HP, 15amp motor. I'll see if I can steer you in the right direction for the replacement switch - but you're going to need an electrician to install it. Cheers. Very decent of you. Yes, I'll ...

Have you tried here?: https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Spare-Parts-Switches Yes, they don't sell it, hence the post here. Alot of these machines come out of the same factory in Taiwan/China. Maybe check the switches on Carbatec or Jet etc equivalents? Do you have a circuit diagram of the switch in...

Spindle switch
The switch is buggered on my spindle moulder - it'll only go in reverse. That is fine, as its the direction I use the most but it is handy to have forward too. Hare and Forbes don't stock spares for this model anymore, so was wondering if I could use this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/312856874829? M...

Re: Drum sander
SE QLD Woodworking in Beenleigh sell a decent single drum machine - it isn't actually on their new site but give them a ring. A few months back I hired the 2hp machine they sell as I live pretty close to their shop and used one for a couple of hours to thickness a load of tops and backs. I wanted to...

Re: Bending Black Limba
So they are snapping. Common enough.
This applies to any woods that are hard to bend -
Soak in hot water, mix in half a cup of any white fabric softener, weight the sides down and leave for 20 mins. Then bend.

Re: Bending Black Limba
Hi to all, The two main factors I work with when choosing Sides and Backs for my guitars (they are all gifts for friends and family) are cost and aesthetics, I recently puchased some amazing looking Black Limba but cannot get the sides to bend without splitting. I have tried both hand and machine b...

Re: Sharpening very narrow chisel
If you have two narrow chisels, you can sharpen them together in a jig like this one:

Just place them a couple of inches apart and they will stabilise one another.

Re: vacuum press
Thanks for your help chaps. I made a simple jig re Allens' instructions - like a big bridge clamp. The frame is made from knot free softwood, painted with rubber paint on the inside (I had a tin left over from doing some roof repairs) The membrane is 1mm thick silicone rubber. The pvc tape around it...

Re: Red gum
I've used jarrah, but it is laminated - veneer. But if you're going for a dead back, this approach may well work for you. There are a few new quirks to using veneer but it does allow you access to beautiful woods you might not otherwise consider because of stability issues. https://www.nkforsterguit...

Re: vacuum press
I just have a frame that is made from timber with silicone rubber membrane. Rubber gasket on the sealing surface. Very much just like a bridge clamp. Just super sized. Use it on a smooth countertop. Works like the hinged ones but far less expensive, and I can store it out of the way when not in use...

vacuum press
Happy new year all.
I use a vacuum bag for a few jobs but I'd really rather like one of those press frames that open and shut like a suitcase.
Anyone got one or made one?

semi hemispherical fretting
I've got a tool to sell lads, so maybe this should go in the classifieds? But you might not see it there... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36xmiTkIwfU&ab_channel=N.K.ForsterGuitars I’ll be honest, even with this tool, semi hemispherical fretting still takes a long time, much more than regular frett...

Spindle moulder. See 2.15 of this video:

Prior to that, it depended on the stock I was using. If you are adding the heel and head, you can taper on the jointer by hand, or on the table saw using a shim.

Re: Chisel set
Glad you enjoyed the podcast. Michael does a good job. The Luban chisels are not for hitting. They have no hoop on the end. So don't hit them. If you want a chisel to hit, buy one for hitting. Japanese chisels with an iron hoop can be hit. As for sharpening - I like this jig the best: https://www.in...

Re: Bandsaw recommendations
I had the smaller Record you mention. It was crap. What do you need a saw for? If you plan to resaw, spend as much as you can afford. But if you don't, my preference is actually for the small bandsaws of which I've had a few. Smaller than the ones you list. They tend to be a bit stiffer than the BS3...
