Hope you're feeling better, thanks for coming all the way to Colorado to teach us, it was great to meet you and I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a hell of a lot.
Thanks, Scott C.

Re: Introductions - a polite request
Hi Geoff, Did you build the resonator from scratch? What plan did you use? A resonator is on my "wish list" Thanks, Scott C. Hi Folks, newbie here. The name's Geoff and I'm from Canberra. I will be retiring in a few weeks and would like to build a few more guitars as retirement projects. With John C...

Re: Introductions - a polite request
Greetings, My name is Scott I am 54, born and raised in the Washington D.C. suburbs. My wife and I had a house built on 5 acres in Central Kentucky. about 8 years ago. So we could help out with her aging parents who live here. I always go all in when I do something (sometimes that's good sometimes n...

Re: 1st try to visualise vibration modes
Thanks, I'll try the tapping tomorrow. Scott C. Thanks, would a back with only 3 ladder braces live? Impossible to say without knowing Young's modulus for the back, its thickness; height and width of the bracing and their Young's moduli, how they're shaped etc.. The Design book is all about getting ...

1st try to visualise vibration modes
Well I gave it my first try with my A. Picado classical guitar. 1. I had a hard time pinning down the exact frequency. 2. T1 came in at 97-98Hz 3. T2 came in at 197-199Hz 4. T3 came in at 230Hz when measured back side up, I could really hear it resonate when it hit 230Hz, top up it was not clear. Is...

Re: Speaker
That makes sense to me. I am gonna look at Lowes tomorrow for the right size PVC and cap. I would wonder about putting some kind of handle on it so I only have to use one hand to hold it. Thanks, Scott C. Do you find it to work better than an open speaker? I've always used this arrangement, so I hav...

Re: Resonator
Hey Nick, I have a couple in line before the resonator as well. I priced all the premade metal parts at about $220 USD. I won't be building from a kit either Scott, there's enough info on the drawings to be able to knock one of these up. I will be buying in pre-made a soundwell though, be bloody har...

Yeah, I'm gonna fool around some with it today, I am lucky enough to not have neighbors close, but it does scare my beagle. Thanks, I have been just foolin around with the speaker naked on a braced top, I see you have to get the speaker position just right for each mode. I would wonder if Trevor get...

Thanks a bunch, I do want to build from scratch rather than a kit. It looks like I should be able to do it! Scott C. could I really build one from scratch with those plans? From memory (I've had them tucked away for a while now waiting to make a start on the reso) the answer is yes. They're 1:1 and ...

Thanks, could I really build one from scratch with those plans? They just didn't look that detailed from what I could see on the website. It looked like they do have all the parts needed.

Speaker
Hi Trevor, I just got my speaker and amp and will be using Visual Analizer as my tone generator. In the design book page AI-4 Fig AI 2-1 it states the speaker is loaded in a piece of PVC and capped on the far end, my questions are: 1. How is the speaker mounted in the PVC? 2. Is the cap on the end o...

Re: Free tone generator software
I was thinking I needed 0.1 resolution from a tone generator, but now I wonder if that is necessary for accurate modal tuning? Ah, OK. Visual Analyser (wave tab) will do down to 0.01Hz increments, but you have to type the numbers in. Just tried it and it seemed to be working, though it's pretty har...

Free tone generator software
Hi, does anyone know of a free tone generator software for PC that will generate the tone to the 0.1 Hz frequency? I found several that do not go into the 0.01 Hz division.
Thanks, Scott

Thanks, It feels pretty rigid, I'll double check everything. Scott C. Sounds real thick to me, too. If the numbers are right, you'd probably be able to feel that the wood was comparatively floppy. As usual, check everything. If it still seems sus, try a different method and see if you come up with t...

Mahogany Back
Hello, I am making 2 steel string J45 Dreadnoughts using mahogany backs. Using the tapping method and formulae, I came up with 3.5 on one back and 3.75 on another, does this sound close to any you guys have done? I know all pieces are different, but this seemed a little thick, but it could be that t...
