Re: Unashamed plug - ANZLF Preferred Vendor??

Hey,

I have had pizza there a couple of times visiting friends or for festivals.

Most of the time I have been under the influence but loved the pizza.

Friends have moved from the area so unfortunately doubt I will be there any time soon.

How would berry picking on the north coast of NSW be?
Plenty of blue berry farms there and they are looking for 500 more international workers.

Excellent looking guitar, the entire guitar goes so well together.

You should be very proud of that effort.

Re: Rosewood experiment

Tod, I was abit surprised to hear it as well considering it was regarding solid body electrics but we will never know unless someone tries. I would but I dont have access to a decent set of calibrated scales. Sounds like a crock to me I agree with you but I still would like to see how much mass dif...

Re: Rosewood experiment

Nick, Any chance you could do another experiment. I have read on a US site that using oil for a finish adds too much mass to the wood which does not allow it to vibrate. Could you get a couple of pieces of wood and oil some and then spray or however you usually finish and see how much weight is added?

Re: Fret installation issues

When fretting I use two radius blocks. The first is a smaller radius and hits the outside in. Then the second is slightly bigger than the fretboard radius. Then I just tap the frets with the hammer to make sure they are down. I use a copper hammer. I imagine you can get them at a lot of places. If y...

Re: Scarf Joint - Planer Sled

How romantic Kim. lovely old cast machines and tactile sounds of the planer. Romantic Ro? Well possibly. But when it comes to hand planes its a sentiment shared by craftsman around the globe, well at least those who know how to tune and sharpen the tool properly anyhow. Likewise with old iron...

Re: Scarf Joint - Planer Sled

Do you check the cut with a straight edge before gluing? That is something I always do. Vertical, horizontal and diagnal. I agree with your comment though - it really doesnt matter HOW it gets done as each person is going to have their own preference, as long as it's done and the joint is perfect. ...

Re: Scarf Joint - Planer Sled

Its not so much to with with the blade as it is about the quality of saw, its guides and how it is set up. A well balance band or table saw gives amazing results and that kind of accuracy is most easily achieved from old iron with the weight and structure to deliver vibration free operation, that, ...

Re: Scarf Joint - Planer Sled

Please forgive me for taking away from your post. The jig is well thought out and will be of use to many that have a jointer but not a well set up saw. Be that a table saw or bandsaw. I use a carbide tipped blade that makes a cut that looks like it went through the drum sander. Hot hide glue and a ...

Celluloid binding

Hi All,

Is it possible to dye/stain celluloid or ivoroid binding. I am after some dark coloured stuff but the guy I deal with doesn't have them in the size I want.

I don't have any laying around to try.

Thanks,

I think we may pick up a gold in hockey, maybe 2. Hopefully something in both mens and womens waterpolo. I would much rather see a NZer win gold than any other country and actually feel as if it was one of ours winning it. Same in football I dont mind if we loose to NZ and a lot of the time I am hop...

Re: bridge & fretboard finishing

Glass could be used to polish the wood. That is a good one to try out Ro , when you say glass ,do you mean like burnishing the wood with something harder than it ? That is done to compress , or sort of case harden the skin of a timber. And depending on the timber ,can bring up a good shine. Exactly...

Re: Blackwood Stain.

Blackwood goes "black" due to tannins, iron and an alkali environment. There is usually enough tannin and iron around in the native wood for an alkali environment to turn the wood "black" (where "black" also means the dirty green, brown etc. that blackwood and your hands will turn). That is the sim...

Re: bridge & fretboard finishing

Most chanderlys sell a penetrating epoxy called everdure. You can thin epoxy with acetone for a similar result as penetrating epoxy. It reduces the gluing strength by a lot and doesnt actually penetrate all that far but penetrating epoxy doesnt either.

I dont know which is on or off but if you have a multimeter or volt meter it is easy to tell.

On you multi meter set it to volts dc and touch pin 2 and 3 and flick the switch with it plugged in and turned on.

Copper conducts heat far better than Aluminium so just get some copper from your pluming supply shop.
