WAS is unavoidable in Lutherie. So... my advice to folks who are anticipating getting into Lutherie is to find and purchase the very most comfortable, overstuffed leather sofa that you can find. A dog is a good idea too. :D

I'm impressed and I also suspect that this is more than a restoration in as much as your F1-11 likely plays and sounds better than it ever did. The workmanship/craftsmanship is superb Kim and this has been very enjoyable for me to watch happening too. Congrats bro and Happy Dad's Day too! :cl :cl :c...

Many thanks my friends! :) I had a good day in the shop, so far..., and was able to join a top, thickness it, cut out a simple wood rosette, and inlay the sucker with some of my new purflings (B/Koa/B) and it looks cool to me. It's a holiday weekend here in the states, Labor day, when I guess we cel...

Lillian my friend the strings are closer together at the nut end of a guitar and farther apart at the bridge end of the guitar to make it easier to play. At the nut end we are pressing or fretting individual strings in specific places. For cording often cords are easier to do if our fingers can rely...

It looks to me like Michael might be asking his ex-dad-in-law Elvis for a IV refill.... or; Elvis and Michael finally found a paradise out of the public view where they can drink and abuse drugs to their hearts delight. Elvis has a still out back and Michael is a fan of scotch whiskey - he likes tha...

Good guesses folks! We do have some Golden eagles here and I have seen them a couple of times including a nest that I found along a river. But Lillian guessed it - this is a Turkey Vulture which are very ugly things with a red head. We don't see the red head here because this one has it's back to us...

Ohhhh - creepy.... :D Well this morning there was a poltergeist looking bird in the field behind my place. If I was a superstitious sort, and I'm not, I would be afraid to go out today... :D So who wants to venture a guess on what this is? I know that many of you have no idea what's indigenous or na...

As far as I understand it doesn't matter what the temperature is, as long as your RH is in the range you are wanting to build at. Working at 25 degrees is a lot more comfortable than 35 -40 that I have to put up with here in the summer, but it sure does make using hide glue a lot easier. I ha...

Wow Jason that guitar and it's finish are looking excellent! I just watched Santana on the tube (tube is kind of a term of the past that does not apply well to today's TV's....) last night and he was playing a green PRS Santana model that the color looked exactly like what you have there. Very nice ...

Dom my friend my label is set-up in Photoshop as "layers", 3 to be exact. The first layer is the text and graphics of the label and the second layer is set-up to be an actual photograph of the back wood that I may be using on a guitar. On this one I decided to not use an actual photograph of this gu...

Purfling

Not being a fan of the bright white lines that we see in commercially available purfling I have been wanting to have some purfling made for me for some time. So... I contacted Gurian and asked them to make some custom purfs for me. The entire experience in dealing with Gurian was a pleasure and the ...
