Re: Clamping a neck

Gday Pat , I recently purchased a small Stanley vice from the big hardware store for $ 40.00 , I think. It swivels into all sorts of positions . The jaws only open to 70mm but found it very handy for carving a neck last week.

Re: Tobacco sunburst

Gday Nigel. it would be nice to end up with a burst that looks something like the old Gibson that David Rawlings plays, i think its from the 1930's. The guitar is a concert size, and the only reason im looking at a sunburst for it is.....umm.....i bbq'ed the sides a bit when bending and have scorch ...

Re: Tobacco sunburst

Thanks for the replies Rod and Allan. All four guitars look incredible, and that second one of yours Rod just screams perfection . Think I'll go with the stew Mac stuff for a first attempt at a sunburst , and look into the 2k candy stuff down the track Allan. Cheers . Marcus.

Tobacco sunburst

Hi all. I'm looking at attempting a vintage Gibson style sunburst to my next build. Am wondering if the stew Mac burst materials are the way to go, or if there is something locally I could go with ? Also, I haven't found any tutorial that fills me with a huge amount of confidence . All suggestions ...

Re: buloke

Thanks for the reply Pete, any idea's on what a decent weight for a bridge is ? This is only my 3rd build, so i've still got a lot to learn !The first 2 sound pretty good to my ear, maybe a little bit heavy on the bass side of things. Not worthy of putting in the gallery, but hopefully this next one...

buloke

Hi guys , today i picked up some well quartered buloke with the intention of using it for a fretboard and bridge. apparently this timber has the highest janka rating on the planet (5060 pounds/force). That being the case, i would have expected it to be quite heavy but to my surprise it would be in t...

Re: Just a bit of romance

mirotone 3220

hi all, just a question on mirotone 3220. i finished my first instrument about a year and a half ago with 3220 and it came up pretty good. (thanks for the spraying tutorial Allen) I'm about a few weeks off putting a finish on number 2 and am wondering if 3220 has a shelf life, as the tin i have is p...

Re: britton timbers & tassie blackwood

G'day Andrew, not sure what part of gippsland you are in. but if you are anywhere near Drouin there is a small timber mill called Millhouse timber co in Longwarry.(about 10 mins from Drouin) Might be worth checking out as i remember him having some blackwood last time i was there, about a year ago. ...

optimum temp for heat blanket (side bending )

Hi all, with the dollar being so good at the moment i thought it was a good time to order a heat blanket from mei. i dont know too much about them other than they look to be the way to go, rather than pipe bending. my question is, what is the optimum temp to have these set at ? also , does anyone kn...
