Because you don't have a hardwood bridge plate and there are braces under there.

Can you put a few drops of black dye/stain in the weld-on. BTW, where did you get it?

Re: Cutaway Dovetail?
Go for a bolt on. Far better than a dovetail anyway. The process should be the same except for adding the bolts so you can change tack now with no problems.

Re: Shielding paint in Oz?
SM have it. I've had a small tin for years and just used some on a Squire Strat that I refinished in a nitro sunburst. Seems to work well and the small can will will go a long way. I am used to active humbuckers which equals very quiet. So passive single coils were always going to be a challenge The...

Re: Fret Board Taper Jig - Table Saw Method.
I'd happily make that cut on the bandsaw but that jig on a table saw is just dangerous. Allen's pick shows a saw with no splitter or riving knife and using a hand and not a push stick. If that fingerboard catches on the rear edge whose ever hand is pushing it through gets dragged right into the blad...

Re: Stew Mac Binding Jig
Take the bottom part of the base off the trimmer and bolt the rest to the SM base which is already pretty thick. I used the old base as a guide to drill new holes in the SM base so I could use similar bolts. Take that bit of clear plastic off the top of the SM base as well. I also filed off any bits...

That's very cool. Did you make up and laminate the back? If so I'm interested in how you did it.

Re: Stew Mac Binding Jig
I have the router jig which is nice and simple and compact. Its a good idea to make the surface under the jig nice and slippery with laminex or something similar like Bob's appears to be. You want the cradle to slide around easily with no hangups. The SM cradle is a hassle though. For changes in gui...

Re: Pore filling for solid colours...
Yeh, I made a bright orange electric for Julie a few years ago and we went to the auto paint shop and got this grey sanding sealer which was really easy to sand but built up in the pores as well. It was so easy to get a super flat base. Then the orage went on so easily and again was simple to cut ba...

Thanks Trevor, I just meant that machines with num lock functions are more likely to be business machines. This is the first laptop I've had this does not have these functions so i wondered if it dealt differently with numbers at the machine code level. Anyway, I'll read up on it and at least we kno...

Ha Ha. Our numbers are always right at the time we make them, its the next day that the problems start. But hey, would you rather have us, or the europeans or americans running the place. In case no one has noticed yet, but the rest of the world has gone to the crapper and yet we are still going pre...

Great work John. Well I am glad I didn't spend all those long nights chasing an excel bug. :x But I am glad it wasn't me making an error. I am using a dell laptop 2.56Ghz but with Windows 7 Home. I'll try it at work tomorrow on the machines we use to run the economy. Keep your fingers crossed, for a...

Re: Brushing epoxy
Keep the used actetone for the initial wash of the brush, then use a little bit of clean stuff to wash the brush. Keep a lip on the old stuff and I found the old glue or resin sinks. The clean acetone keeps your old stuff from getting too crappy. I found a really nice squeegy that leaves a very flat...

Mirotone in Canberra
Hey, I went to Turners today to get some Mirotone 3220 full gloss and they are out and won't have any for a couple of weeks. Anyone know who else stocks it in Canberra? If not could i scrounge a litre of someone for a couple of weeks? I would like to get a guitar finished while this weather is nice....

Well, I have had two people with very good math skills to check my calcs and they both are happy with what Os and I have done. So I am stuck at this point. I think I'll try the 2DOF model and see if I can replicate that.

Re: How cheap can manufacturers really be.
Buying $9.49 machine heads and expecting them to be any good is borderline insane. But then slagging the whole shop for making that purchase is just unfair. I didn't mean to target the shop. They have good cases and stuff as Trevor says and its cheap and I've had good service from them. I was talkin...

Re: Brushing epoxy
Hey, I've used mostly Zpoxy but have tried west systems. I prefer Zpoxy. Sands easier than WS. My problem was when sanding back to wood and opening up small pores. I notice it most on the headstock where lots of prep and pore filling I still get a bit of sink back it I sand back to wood. I tried a b...

Gotta agree with Trevor on this. I was looking forward to something with micro adjust. As soon as I saw it, as beautiful as it looks, I wondered how I could attach a screw thread to the dovetail.

Re: 4 DOF Model
Thanks again Trevor, I tried something like this but obviously got an error somewhere. I'll get it though I am sure, there are only so many ways to calculate it. And each time I get one wrong, I am by default closer to the answer. I kind of like these challenges, as frustrating as it can be because ...
