Fibre Sheet for side lamination

Hi,

Has anybody used vulcanised fibre sheet to laminate guitar sides?

Cheers

Re: Back in Business

Hi Wayne, I'm extremely satisfied with sound of this guitar. It's very responsive, has good sustain with great separation and balance between voices - which is what I'm looking for in a finger style guitar. The timbre is quite rich due to a strong fundamental with a good balance of overtones (partia...

Re: Back in Business

Hi blackalex, It's Mirotone Mirocat PC 3220. I normally use Durobond 851 Nitro but it's getting too expensive to purchase and freight to Tassie - $130 shipping for 2 litres. There is a Mirotone retailer in Hobart - I saved nearly $200. So far I'm happy with the finish, although it doesn't seem as ha...

Conical Fingerboards

Hi All, I want to make a guitar with a conical fingerboard. I am in the process of designing a jig to produce the said fingerboards - is the conical radius projected over the scale length of the guitar - say 16" at the nut to 20" at the saddle - or the length or the fingerboard to a particular fret ...

Conical Fingerboards

Hi Trevor,

I want to make a guitar with a compound radius fingerboard. I am in the process of designing a jig to produce said fingerboards - is the compound radius projected over the scale length of the guitar or the length or the fingerboard to a particular fret?

Thanks

Re: Finally Finished

Man, that does not look like a first-time build. Are you holding out on us? Very nicely executed. Quite Olsonesque (especially around the bridge and the overall shape). Nice woods and a very nice finish. Congrats Leigh Mark Thank's Mark, I'm not holding out - I had no woodworking experience until I...

No, not intentionally - I made 13 body shape profiles before I settled on this one. I was hoping it was an original.

Finally Finished

Finally finished my first build - I dropped the ball a couple of times and left it for a couple of months and there are a few flaws but I am happy with the result.

In the Buff

Finally finished my buffing machine and will be able to complete my first build.

When I decided to make a guitar I didn't realise how may jigs and forms I had to construct on the way.

Re: Using 3-phase tools in a home workshop?

Three phase is 415V AC. It is a four wire system and is expensive to install - new mains, meters etc. You can run much more powerful motors on 3PH - anything over 3-3.5HP is best run on 3PH, thats why they are more torquey. It comes down to how serious you are about your workshop and if you can clai...

Thanks Taff - that gives me an option. I had a local engineering firm quote me to make 2 pair - $800.

John and Sandra McCray's internet accounts for Alaska Tonewood and Last Frontier Tonewood have been suspended. Hopefully they will not have the opportunity to rip anyone off again.
