Transfer of HMTC

Good Day Gents, I just posted the following over on the OLF and thought it best to copy here as well. I will still be around as I hope come fall I can actually find some time to get back to work on the guitar I started in 2006 or so! Thanks again for everything, you have been a great bunch! Good eve...

Re: No more High Mountain Lutz?

Tell ya what Bob, you make the effort to get yer butt all the way to Terrace and I will come back for a couple of days and show you around. We will go find a few nice big trees to hug and find a few cold ones to tip. So don't spill it out of your bucket just yet! Shane You got me with the coldies. ...

Re: No more High Mountain Lutz?

Hi Shane, firstly I wish you all the best with future endeavours. Secondly - it's great to see some images of the starting point of the timber that goes on to make some great builds. The ultimate build thread will be to see where you take some of your "personal" stash with these as a reminder of wh...

Re: No more High Mountain Lutz?

I had a chance to saw up the billets that I pulled off the log last week and they are nicer than I expected. Here is a picture of one of the sets: 2013 top.jpg Here is close up of that some top showing the even colour (even with the poor lighting) and you can see the medullary rays quite well: 2013 ...

Re: No more High Mountain Lutz?

Thanks for posting those coordinates Martin. I am checking here and on the OLF and am keeping a list for sets. I will post a few more pictures tonight. I processed those first few billets yesterday and they are much nicer than I expected. It is snowing now so I am heading back up to the logs with he...

Re: No more High Mountain Lutz?

Martin asked if I would post something on the ANZLF about my recent decision to leave HMTC. First off I have to say that although I don't post often on this forum (or any others of late) I do check in fairly often and am always refreshed by the humour and friendship that prevails here. Bob, Kim, Mar...

Re: SpruceTonewood.com

Thanks for the warm welcome back everyone. It feels good to be back at it. And I have a long backlog but chipping away at it as I have been for the last few weeks feels pretty good!

Re: SpruceTonewood.com

I interviewed Montreal builder, Michael Greenfield, at Healdsburg, August 2011. I asked him about his concerns with acquiring suitable timber. I loved his reply: 'When I order from a new supplier, I ask him/her to select 100 of their very best sets....then send me the 20 sets I won't be returning.....

Re: ANOTHER big earthquake in Christchurch

We've been picking bits and pieces up on the news. I too am glad to hear that Nick and others are OK (besides the lose of house and or property!) and that Martin your family is well also. My heart sure goes out for those less fortunate.......Hope you guys can find 'normal' soon!

She is about 3 hours south of Vancouver and I am 500 miles, as the crow flies, north of Vancouver, 1000 miles if you drive, that is about 17 hours on the road in Summer.....just a silly drive th...

Dennis, I think that the Sperzel tuners would be awesome on your unique designed guitar. Look at the picture on my website, the set 3rd from the left are open gear. These tuners don't use screws to mount, they have a little tab that you drill a shallow hole for and that stops them from spinning. I a...

Dennis,

I just went and weighed a few sets as well.

Sperzel, cast/machined aluminum open back are 155 grams
Gotoh open back gold all metal also 155 grams (Waverley look a likes)
Gotoh 510 like the Delta series, large are 200 grams.

Hope that helps!

I just weighed the ones I have. Gotoh double acting (like Bob's) 184 grams LMI double acting 118 grams The single acting that I have made up by the same dude that made Larrivee's for YEARS!..107 grams. If you add two pieces of carbon fibre to the single acting you are still only at 149 grams. That i...
