What are your first thoughts on the sound produced by the CTBP (X-mas tree bridge plate)???
Congratulations mate!

Re: Sassafras Weissenborn-copy project: The Firefly
Hi Bob! I've been checking regularly on your project and it's really coming along nicely. I can't wait to hear its first sample! The fretboard as it is shown in the picture is not finished yet and is still too thick. The "standard thickness" is (from the info I've gatherd) beween 3.5 and 3mm. I reck...

Re: Sassafras Weissenborn-copy project: The Firefly
Dear ANZLF members... Now is time to report a little bit on my progress! I have been slowed down by the christmas holidays but now things are moving more quickly: - I finished binding the instrument - I drilled the tuner holes - I drilled the endpin hole - I positioned the bridge location and drille...

Re: Lap Slide Guitar
The project looks great Alan. I can't wait to hear it. Will you fit a k&k pickup as you did for the others? BTW, you mentionned a few months ago that you had accumalted a nice wood stash, but I didn't realise how consequent it was (first pic). That must be very satisfactory when you enter that room!...

Re: Lap Slide Guitar
Congratulations Alan! Your instrument already looks great and I can see the benefits from the first two copies you have built: everythings looks really neat and cared for! I am now in the binding process with my own project. I'm doing better than with my first guitar, but still imprefections remain....

Re: Carbon Reinforced Lattice Bracing.
Hello there, I'm venturing into this hall of experts and have a question. My luthier english is getting much better, but when it comes to physics and advanced notions, I'm left a bit flabbergasted and flummoxed!! I understand that there are several options when it comes to using CF in bracing a top,...

Re: Sassafras Weissenborn-copy project: The Firefly
Dear ANZLF members ! :cl I have been able to dedicate some time to my project and things are taking shape ! Ten days ago, I have glued the top to the sides and adjusted the edges flush with the sides. I agree that this bracing pattern looks particularly heavy. It is however the sum of the research I...

Re: Weissenborn Copy Build
Hi Bob, I'll be following this thread with a lot of interest! I feel quite honoured to play a little role in your experiment as well! There are two things in your project I want to follow very closely: side double lamination and your lattice bracing design... As I told you in my email, my plan is th...

Dear ANZLF members, Things are moving forward in my basement… My new rosette is now finished and the soundhole cut : http://lh3.ggpht.com/_dt07ChR0Pog/TNlxG8Hyu2I/AAAAAAAAAaM/qUDeemh5DkQ/s512/photo2.JPG I braced the top with hide glue and the « Christmas tree bridge plate » I talked about at the beg...

Re: Post-1926 Weissenborn copy project: the "firefly"
Dear ANZLF members, Been working on my headstock this weekend. I still need to refine it but the basic shape/dimensions are there... So this is a wandoo headplate on a sassafras headstock... Img (notice the euro-patriotic photo composition Wink) Unfortunately I have had issues with my rosette... it ...

Well thanks for the encouragement! Alan, I forgot to thank you for all the help you've been kind enough to provide: I refer to the pictures you sent me on a daily basis! I also forgot to mention that for the last couple of months, I have been working on a plan to try to encompass the many details th...

Sassafras Weissenborn-copy project: The Firefly
Dear ANZLF members, I'm reposting this topic since it didn't survive the ANZLF server breakdown, but no worries, I kept a copy so here it is: My name's Gwenn and I live in Paris (but next summer I'm moving to London UK with my job). I got into amateur guitar building a year ago and almost completed ...
