Re: 1/2 Humbucker - dry run

Yeah, the lap steels have a wider cavity/pickup, the issue trying to run 2 coils next to each other in a regular electric guitar is space for the wire on the inside of the bobbins. I know there was an old Flying V that did this, though the bobbins were slightly angled to fit the 4 coils. Once im hap...

Re: 1/2 Humbucker - dry run

100% correct tod, i planned on series as it seemed logical, but thought to run them parallel while im in here doing this stuff to actually hear the difference, and try phasing. . Its not quite there yet, its very usable but i have a few ideas to get things balanced closer to perfection, i am impress...

Re: 1/2 Humbucker - dry run

Yep, although some things just work regardless of the theory behind it, sometime they really dont :?

In this case, success :cl Ill wire it up in series tomorrow, so its more like one whole unit working the frequencies. Hope you enjoyed the games :dru

Re: 1/2 Humbucker - dry run

Mmm, where does one start. By removing 3 "slugs" from the bobbin, youve merely created a point for interference pickup, the area where the slugs are now missing are not being influenced by a magnetic field any more, that lack of influence area is the same as running 300meters of unshielded wire. Th...

Re: 1/2 Humbucker - dry run

WOW  I really like it! I might spend a week playing around but some great new sounds available.... i dont think a new pup is needed, removing the poles/screws works well :dri Maybe a seperate tone control for each pup to broaden the options but for now im pretty amazed. Not everyones cup of t...

1/2 Humbucker - dry run

A little sunday tinkering, i thought you guys may find this interesting, going for silky smooth highs and snappy lows by creating 2 half buckers The original idea was to have 4 mini coils side by side but before i get to having them made up and getting around the coil space issue, i'll be running a ...

Sorry... steve, im am 100% sincere when i say i admire what you do, believe me. The laugh icon was a visual of me as i was reading your post and thinking of trying to do what you do. Knowing how the hysteresis curve applies to that specific metal is the key, retentivity and permeability of th...

Hmm, can you tell me what seperates you from others, what makes you special? :) Experience with alternate winds and gauges, metals used in poles, magnets used, wind patterns. I mean anyone can wind a pickup, but there is an art to it and i'm seeking the artists from Oz. I have 3 really good guys and...

Re: Any Good Pickup Winders In Oz You Can Suggest :)

^ Thanks, sounds like a great winder (judging by the clips) Nice tones. But im after that real double tone vintage sound, no ice pick (and no flab) but shimmery. Personal experience is a big bonus, if you use em and dig em, id love to hear about them. Ill keep him in mind for hot modern type winds, ...

My favourite solid body guitar :cl Thanks for bringing this Tele into the world! I love these things, beautifully shaped slabs of musical wood (i have an old '85 Ibanez Tele copy, 2 buckers and just magical)

This one is looking good so far :P

Looks like a nice fat neck too...?

I hope you get some input out of the post, but with comments like that i see why i were reluctant to come back to the forum, thanks again puff :cl

Re: Bourns Potentiometer Testing Results

Hey Tim, thanks for the info. Most of my electric guitars use EMG active pickups. They come with their own pots presumably to handle the small current but I have never really looked into it. Do you know if the ones you showed work with active pickups? I also have a couple with coil splitting push p...

Hi Kim, :moo Your regular cts pots have the regular Audio or linear taper as posted in the white graph above, the custom taper 10% CTS pots have a different resistance curve, this graph comes from a freind, Jonesy in the US (it was sent to him from Ron at CTS) Red - Linear CTS Black - Custom CTS Yel...

Re: Bourns Potentiometer Testing Results

Another thing i found really interesting is that the standard unsealed pots come in 3 different torque levels(how hard it is to rotate the pot). Not a bad idea really, if you dont use the tone pot much, a high torque would come in handy to prevent bumping the pot lightly and changing the tone settin...

Re: Bourns Potentiometer Testing Results

Ok, here is where these 2 sealed pots shine...the taper. For gradual roll off and volume swells, i give a 9/10 for both. These are really easy to control your tone, using 50's wiring i were able to clean up and add dirt quite easily by rolling the volume back, no extreme jumps or loss of volume, jus...
