Dennis,

After reading your detailed response to my concern of the bottom adjusting bolt. I feel much better :D You sure did your homework.
Sounds, like it will work fine. Keep us updated.

Great job on refining my simple wedge body drawing.
To allow fretboard end, truss rod adjusting.

Dennis, Nice looking design, and of course I always like looking at drawings. Glad to see your progress with real parts. I guess we are like minded on not wanting the truss rod adjustment at the peghead. Sure it is the simple solution, but it looks like we both enjoy the challege of "If there's a wi...

Allen,

That little guitar looks great. Nice work!
I agree with others is has a nice vintage look.
Glad to see the adjustable neck in a real build.
I am a fan of Dragonflys also, so I like your Inlay.
Way to go!

A blunder like that and as a reward he gives tickets to one of his concerts.
What a guy!!!
Our news reported it was on loan to him. This makes leaving it in a taxi
worst.
So how many think someone would never leave a $5000 guitar in a trunk
on a hot day.

Serge, That is a cozy looking deck you built, and a nice little shed. Sebastiaan, I like the little robots, if I had the time I would like to try that. I like woodturning also, nice looking work. I have also made some bamboo flutes years ago, I sucked at playing them so I gave them to those that cou...

Other things we have built

With so many talented people here I thought it might be fun to see some of the other things we have built over the years. This is just a small sample of my various work. This is a rowing skiff I built, 16' long, 70 lbs. http://www.anzlf.com/phpBB2/userpix/46_Boat_1.jpg This bridge was a contract bui...

Dave, Increasing the angle of drop on the upper bout was my first thought, (my standard drop of the upper bout is 1-1/4 deg.) I will admit In my mind I did not think I would care for the look. But! after seeing the pic of your guitar and Howards guitar I think that it looks fine. Last night I came u...

Dave, Good point about adding lenght at the upper bout. There are plenty examples of standard 12 fret models that have longer bodies then there 14 fret models of the same style One example is the Martin D18s a 12 fret Dred. My statement about moving the bridge was based on using a standard body size...

Dennis,

Yes I did see that pic, I assumed it was a archtop guitar and it had a floating bridge. It would be easy on an archtop with a tall bridge.

Grant,Dave,Allen, Thanks for the replys. What I would like to do is "float" the fretboard and the extention over the soundboard, allowing the full size of the soundboard to be free to vibrate. In order to do this Rick's design has the adj. at the peghead end and this is the simple solution. I guess ...

Grant, Im still in the thought process, I have not settled on any one design. I am tied up with mandolin builds at present, so It will be awhile until I can play with real working models of adjustable necks. I like the simplicity of your clever design and I like the way Rick's design allows more use...

Jeff, Several things come to mind for me, first would be the body style, I prefer a medium size for my playing comfort. I don't build copys of common builds, so for the sake of discussin let's use the 000 or 0M martin style as a example. You could still use the 14th fret as the body joint. I would e...

Allen, You said: I must say that I'm of two minds when it comes to the adjustment mechanism. For a guitar that I'm going to keep myself, I like the idea of making it easily adjustable, but one that is going to go to someone else, I'm thinking "Out of sight, out of mind". Who knows what a chronic twe...

Hi Grant, Welcome to the forum, Im glad you are here. I like your neck joint method, I agree the best design is not what you add but what you can take away or remove. Less is more. Your design is clever and well thought out. I still like the adjustment screws as pivots, this is not to make up for a ...

Hi Dennis, When you said this: What I meant about CNC was that if a luthier is carving necks and especially curved neck heels by hand, then they will all be a bit different. If the neck heels have slightly different shapes, the jig for the pocket will not work. perhaps you missed my comment that it ...

Craig, I think your heel with the 2 ferrules look great! In regards to mortising a straight or stilleto shaped heel into the neck end of the body I would use a router and a fixture to do it. A CNC should not be needed to make an accurate fixture, if you stuff your first attemp just do it again. I ad...
