podcasts
I recently started listening to podcasts, on various topics, on the way to and from work. I came across the Fretboard Journal website the other day and noticed their podcast page http://www.fretboardjournal.com/audio Thought someone might be interested. I would be happy to hear about other podcast s...

Re: Electric upright bass
A thing of beauty, Paul. Re: Tillman preamp....Where did you get hold of a J201 FET? I've been using a modified design with a more common MPF102 transistor. It's not directly interchangeable but with the mods it works a treat. Your boy will be stoked. Derek hi - the j201 came from Element14 http://...

Re: The Improved Rosette Cutter
After reading this thread I got all inspired and decided to make a rosette cutter. Sorry, couldn't wait for that beautiful piece of brass machinery to hit the market. Up till now I used a Dremel with a crude perspex base plate that I attach to the Stew Mac router base. I was never happy with it - ad...

Re: Semi-Hollow Sides Thickness
hi when I built my es-335 I laminated 4 X 1.5mm thick pieces for each side. So that's 6mm thick. I used QLD Maple and was very easy to bend at 1.5mm. Pretty sure I read or sighted somewhere that Gibson use that method to give a 1/4 inch thickness (approx 6.35mm). I also glued in kerfed linings top ...

Re: Plans for Portuguese Guitarra?
hi Shane Markus has done well. You probably are not going to find a beautiful plan for this sort of thing but you can piece together info to create one yourself. That's part of the fun. Try emailing some makers for info like suppliers of that elaborate tuner hardware. I found this site of a maker wh...

Carved es 335
finally finished my carved es 335 that i started planning 2 years ago. The body and neck are QLD Maple, ebony fingerboard and on the headstock. White plastic bindings and abolone and mop inlays. Tobacco burst sprayed finish with shellac (tinted with Feast Watson stains), and nitro lacquer over the t...

hi Liam I like your question. Here's my thoughts but I do not claim to be an expert. I think the answer to your question is that the es-335 is not an "archtop" guitar. Its chambered body will of course give it a distinctive sound but unlike an archtop the top and back do not provide amplification. G...

hi thanks for the info on the 356 Chris - I didn't realise that was the case. Nice looking guitar too - I just googled a few- nice one at Elderly Instruments http://www.elderly.com/brand/40U_gibson.html They seem to have a ~14" lower bout. ~16" on the es335/355, and body length probably shorter? Thi...

hi again no problem - let me start again... I started building guitars about 10 years ago as a hobby. I have not built much but finished projects include a tele, strat, flying v, uke, d/nought, electric bass. I am not in the industry (timber or lutherie) but pretty good with timber generally. Just f...

es-335 contour templates
hi
I am planning to build a gibson es-335 style guitar. I am not using laminated plates for the top and back though. I am going to carve them like an archtop. I am now trying to find templates for the contour of the top and back.
Much appreciated if anyone can assist.
thanks - FT
