Re: I have a problem with WoodRat
Your half way there. I say sit it aside and get to it when you can. It's looking good! It is looking good and Woodrat did 100% of the work! I am tempted to keep it for the long haul and hopefully get to it some day soon. Or even go along to a building class and finish it off there. I am no expert b...

Re: I have a problem with WoodRat
It'd be difficult (but not insurmountable) to turn it into a Dobro at this stage. The back braces would need to come off because the back of a dobro is flat, the soundhole is in the wrong spot on the top and the braces would need to come if it as well. I'd think it'd be easier to buy a new back and...

I have a problem with WoodRat
Well, it's a good problem at least. I good while ago now I purchased a guitar kit off Woodrat as I couldn't go past it's fine looks. Fast forward to now and It sadly sits in my shed waiting for some love and completion. I just pulled it out (the kit that is) to have another lust over it. My problem ...

Re: Finally found it!
Being in the USA I have seen a lot of guitars like this one. The sides are almost certainly solid and probably thinner than most guitars now. The kind of separation you see on the top and back is nearly universal on guitars which have been stored and not played. They can sound pretty good, especial...

Re: Finally found it!
Will From your photos the guitar appears to be made of plywood, is it worth the time and trouble? My opinion is keep it as it is for sentimental value, hang it on the wall. Reassemble and repair where the top and back are separting, but I wouldn't sand it back because if you do you will loose the d...

Re: Fox style bender - mini maton style molds - 2x radius di
Hi Will Did you provide CAD files to the manufacturer and if so what format did they require. No I didn't have to provide anything. Well, I emailed him a few photos of body shapes I liked & he converted everything from the photos to his software, produced some drawings with dimensions then asked me...

Re: Tenor Guitar help
Glad you asked the question Martin,
I too am about to start building a small body guitar with a 22'' scale. Have also been wondering what neck thicknesses & what truss rod to use.
Will keep an eye on this thread.

Timber supplier: Brisbane
Hi all, I dropped in to my relatively local timber supplier today and saw some amazing timber for guitars and what not. Thanks for the input guys.
I had not thought about use as headstock veneers.
It is a nice looking piece but I think I will have a look at Bunnings.
I have seen some nice stuff there before.

Here's a song about Martin He was born in the woods Torn from his home. Well, he was naked, And destined To be out on his own. And he waited in darkness, Hoping someone might see, From something so rough, What a treasure he'd be. Stronger than steel and wood. Seen me through the bad and good. And wh...

Re: What timber is this? Good for Electrics?
Thanks, I have thought that it is mostly about the electric you use. And furthermore, the amp it is plugged into. I had thought you needed to use strong neck timbers but carbon fibre should go a long way to strengthening any weaker necks. I too have some spotted gum lying around although a bit green...

What timber is this? Good for Electrics?
Hi, just went to "the Big Red Shed" at Darra, Brisbane where I came across these timbers. They were not sure what species they were other than one may be yellow wood. They all come from North Qld and were salvaged from cyclone Yasi. Anyone know what they are or if they would be good for electric gui...
