Re: Router bits

A router table one of the best tools I made up for my workshop. I got my hands on a Unilift router lifter and made up the table myself. At the time the Unilift was the bees knees of lifters but these days there are other makes available that do an adequate job. As far as router safety goes.....lear...

Re: Router bits

Don't buy one of those collections of bits. You won't use half of them! Really the best way is to buy bits as and when you can see what you need for a particular job. You will almost certainly need some straight cutters but you will probably need bearing guided types, however top or bottom bearing ...

Re: Router bits

Guitar Templates has a good selection of templates. The business is run by ANZLF member Andrew Armstrong. I've used them for various supplies and always received quality goods and top service. If you cant find a template you're ring Andrew and discuss with him what you need. https://www.guitartempl...

Router bits

I've genuinely tried to research but I'm at a bit of a loss. If I was to write a shopping list of a minimum set of router bits, what would I need to: - do some contouring steps (eg LP's) - round over bit (tele/strat) - binding - finishing off body shapes using a template (don't know a better way of ...

Re: Suggestions for materials to "practise" with

Don't want to sound like a party pooper if your starting out you need to be aware of what your getting yourself into also you will find yourself sitting in your shed spending countless hours playing with your wood tapping it and getting to know it intimately. @tapslider. Aw pal. That made me wheeze-...

Re: Suggestions for materials to "practise" with

Hi Johnny. Good on you for jumping in and giving it a go. I understand completely the thought that you can't start by working on any kind of nice timber, but don't go too far in the other direction either. For my first build (an acoustic) I bought a kit (from StewMac, or LMI - I can't remember now)...

Re: Suggestions for materials to "practise" with

Good advice Martin I'm conservative by nature - my default is to stand back, scratch my head and ask "what's going wrong here" and absolutely I always want to have at least some sort of plan/stepped plan in advance. And it appears that it is my very good luck to land here and hopefully get the persp...

I'm very grateful for your thoughts and suggestions.

A bit to consider - hopefully I can come back with some intelligent questions.

Kind regards

Suggestions for materials to "practise" with

These will probably rank as the "noobiest" questions ever but here goes. I'd like to do two projects in order to build up my severely limited skills (I'm genuinely at the start of my guitar building journey) - I figure that I need to jump in, have a go and make many inevitable mistakes. The first pr...

Welcome to the forum Johnny, don't be scared to ask questions, remember there's no stupid questions. Wayne
Cheers and thanks for the welcome.

I'm going through the tutes and threads first just to make sure I'm not asking something that's already been asked.

Kind regards

Re: Please Say Hello!!

Was looking for a thread to post in and, voila, my prayers were answered. Hi all Thanks for having me along. My 30 second luthier story goes something like this... I am a very average guitarist and even more averager as a drummer. As long as my music is never heard by society we're all good. When I ...
