Re: HELP! Falcate Parlour , interesting double peak in response, problem or not?
Replying to myself about the double peak: - looking back to "design" book 2.3.8. "If peak E ( back contribution to top resonant frequency) is placed too close in frequency to the fully coupled top's resonant frequency it has the effect of splitting the peak of the first top resonance....." --> this ...

HELP! Falcate Parlour , interesting double peak in response, problem or not?
I am building a falcate braced parlour model (dimensioned approx as Larrivee P10), for a friend. Bracing as per the book plans, very small mods to adapt smaller body size. After closing the box, I noticed there is a double resonance in the top response. - back resonance before closing the box was 24...

Re: Top Deflection rig
Thanks for all the pics for deflection jig implementations. I proudly copied yours to my jig. After doing some repetitive measurements, I got a mobility result of ~20 for my falcate braced guitar. The measurement still has some error sources: - I need to stiffen the horizontal bar to guarantee it do...

Re: "Mass producing" falcate braces
Jani, what temperature did you use to bend the spruce? Greg, I bent first pair topping to 150C. That was obviously too much, I have now a brace set with thermo treated spruce to experiment with :-) Next batches were bent 130C and turned out perfect. I did find out that Trevor's lamination method wi...

"Mass producing" falcate braces
I had some difficulties to persuade my tight grain Carpathian (=European) spruce to bend with traditional bending iron. After few trials, I decided to use the CNC to make bending form a bit wider to be used in my bending machine. The form is ~80mm wide so it accepts 2 pcs of braces 35mm wide in para...

Falcate OM new demos online
I find there is only a few good demos online on falcate braced guitars. So, we recorded good quality demos by a professional player. Edvin Guitars Falcate Demo - Mix of different playing styles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B7qtovN-Xs&t=52s Edvin Guitars Falcate OM 12 fret cutaway demo "On Hetki"...

Nut / saddle compensation / tricky verification
I completed a short mini-project and created new saddle-nut compensation for my low action setup by using Greg's excellen spreadsheet. I encountered a positive problem: the perfomance is probably better than my measurement equipment! namely, I tested 5 different mobile/PC based tools and got quite d...

Re: Spreadsheets
Thanks Greg I tested the spreadsheet, made a new nut/saddle and got a big improvement from the values that were written in the Gore book. I made the optimization for low action using the Libre office solver. In my case, the problem was I originally made the saddle / nut by the book dimensions but th...

Re: Edvin Guitars first falcate braced OM Size
That looks excellently executed. Very dark Indian Rosewood. I have built a few falcates and the design just seems to work. Did you find a need to adjust the frequencies with side masses? Cheers Dave The youtube demo is done with side masses. No need for them but I tried . The data is posted in this...

Re: Edvin Guitars first falcate braced OM Size
You have managed really clean use of the epoxy with the cf. Mine.don't look any where near as tidy. The wheatsheah purfling looks great and I notice that you have given the top string some more space from the edge of the fretboard so it doesn't get pulled off. I would use a more sharp cutaway but t...

Re: Edvin Guitars first falcate braced OM Size
Wow. Gorgeous. Amazing work. Did you have any trouble obtaining North American woods (Walnut, Sitka) in Finland? And Spanish Cedar comes from Central and South America, I think? Usually used on nylon-string guitars, its flexural modulus is a little on the low side, at 9.12 GPa. Have you found much ...

Re: Where has everyone gone?
Greg, I just joined the forum, after having found there is not much discussion regarding contemporary acoustic guitar design in my home country. We have a long tradition in instrument building in the traditional way. But I am quite alone , now building this country's first sets of falcate braced gui...

Edvin Guitars first falcate braced OM Size
After having read Trevor Gore’s book “Contemporary Acoustic Guitar” for a couple of times, I finally finished building my first falcate braced OM sized acoustic guitar a few weeks ago. My feeling is that this is the most resonant and tonally exciting guitar I have built and I might say also that it ...
