A good source of wood for solid body work in Adelaide: https://mountainrivertimber.com.au/
Thank you for that Martin. I will definitely check them out. The prices look reasonable and the location couldn't be better.

Re: solid body construction books and beginner timber blanks

Hi, Tassie Oak from Bunnings, this is what I am looking for, cut on the quarter, and buy it when I see it. It worked well for the cigar box-style guitars I was building at that time, with no truss rod either. end grain.jpg This was a fun build some time ago, all pine, neck as well, still good after...

Melvyn Hiscock's books are a good starting point as well.
Thank you for the tip Darrel. I am fortunate to have been loaned a copy of Make Your Own Electric Guitar.

You could try tas oak ( kd hardwood ) from Bunnings it's fairly cheap and actually makes a pretty good neck. I've used it on a few builds. Wayne
Thank you very much Wayne. I'll give it a go :D

solid body construction books and beginner timber blanks

Hello everyone, After previously making my first classical guitar a couple of years ago I am currently in the middle of my first electric guitar build at a course near where I live in Adelaide. The wood is conveniently provided by the course but I would like to work on my hand tool skills at home an...

Re: current reputable intensive workshops?

If you're in Adelaide Wood and Strings in Marino is another option : https://woodandstrings.com.au Just as an aside, during a previous overseas trip while stuck in a cheap hotel while in transit, I wrote the following short article about my experiences with a couple of courses including with Wood an...

Re: Attention all Lurkers

So I joined up several years ago, got all excited about starting to build instruments, bought some timber etc... ...then went through a divorce, lost motivation, started a couple of different hobbies instead, and kind of forgot that this forum existed. Just recently though, I found the slab of Tass...

Re: Chisel set

Yeah, I like these chisels. I bought a set of long handles and the set with stubby handles about 8 years ago, when they were really cheap, and I've been using them, and have been happy with them ever since. It's definitely NOT a "bad idea". It's a GOOD idea! As for sharpening, I sometimes use stone...

Re: Chisel set

I bought a set when I first moved here and was still waiting for all my tools to arrive. Decent chisels. Hello Nigel, Thank you for the comment. It’s reassuring to know you have found them to be decent. Just as an aside, I really enjoyed your interview on the Luthier on Luthier podcast. Cheers, Matt

Chisel set

Hello everyone, I'm still getting started and slowly building up my collection of tools. I'm getting close to finishing off my first classical guitar neck with traditional Spanish heel with the tools at the guitar making school.
