Re: How do you profile your bridge?
I do exactly as above. BUT, this profiled piece of wood, I put locator pins in the bottom and drilled holes in the surface of my belt sander. I fit it to the surface and let the belt roll over the radius. Profiles the bottom of the bridge in about 25 seconds. And it’s absolutely perfect. Beats doing...

Re: Trevor’s video by Robbie
The videos were a godsend. I was getting ok results trudging my way through different operations, then one night as I laid awake asking what I was doing wrong, I decided to take a peek online for some video help, well the day before Robbie just published the video. So I bought it and then went to sl...

Re: How useful is the CF under the brace?
This was a very interesting topic to read. I hope to build my first falcate some day in the future and it’s very good to know that under the bridge plate is “proper” but that people have had much with over it as Well. It sounds like alot less of a headache going over to be honest. I know I’m gonna m...

Re: Is two better than one?
Ok I will try that to start. I suppose it’s possible. The back is built heavily. But the frequencies could be coupling when so close. Right?

Is two better than one?
So I recently got the box closed and got a nice peaky spectrum. Pulled out the ol’ signal generator for come chladnis and I have two monopoles and two cross dipoles... and they correspond to peaks on the spectrum. Any idea what is happening there? Are resonances coupling somehow?

Shellac and other finish
Recently finished my first French polish. Took a long time to get it looking nice. And I’m not really impressed with the finishing method. The slightest touch of a fingernail will make a crater. I have experience with nitro and prefer the end result. I don’t have access to a spray room anymore. So I...

Re: T(1,1,)3 Double Peak
If you look ten topics down I posted the same problem. I had a mode with two peaks. I use chladni patterns and I only get a mode that is somewhere in between the split peak. Maybe we need to use more conditioner on our guitars to repair split ends? Or maybe there’s some better advice. I’m sure Trevo...

Re: Glue squeeze out
Thanks man! I will be sure to give it plenty of time to fully cure then I will use a damp rag. Not too wet. This eases my mind.

Glue squeeze out
I’m getting ready to glue my bridge down soon. I did a French polish on my soundboard and that went relatively well for my first attempt. I’m not really interested in ruining what I have, so I ask you now for advice on gluing down the bridge and cleaning up the glue. I intend on using titebond. I kn...

Too thin?
I am preparing for my second build as number one is getting finish. And I have some concern with with the target thickness I am getting. It works with all the book examples. The spruce is German spruce. It feels especially stiff but not exceptionally. I have not worked with German spruce before. My ...

Bocote
I purchased some Bocote awhile back. I was and am unfamiliar with the wood. It was a nice brown like a rosewood almost. And as I started thicknessing it it became this blond stripy wood. After some google searches I found out it’s kinda supposed to be that way. However I would like it to all be this...

Split frequencies
What would cause a frequency to split? My air is at 114. And my top was at 228. I started sanding some lattice in my lower bout area and it split and it’s now at 205 and 230hz nothing happens with chladni at 205 but I get the monopole at 235hz. Science is weird.

Re: Guitar one frequency
So i got to my shop today and first thing i did was take another tap test. And behold, it must have been outside noise creating those frequencies. It looks alot more normal now. looks like both frequencies need to come down a bit tho. Would you reccomend bridge edge thinning? i will hopefully be abl...

Re: Guitar one frequency
I am holding it in playing position. I need to practice getting more even taps. Some are harder than others. Maybe a bouncy ball on a stick like seniõr Gore. I recently received all my items to generate some chladni patterns. Just waiting mom a digital amp. But in the meantime, I really like your so...

Re: Guitar one frequency
Yes so, i is the top and back on the sides. Freshly out of the clamps and freshly flush trimmed. I am using Spectrum analyzer. And it is set up the way Trevor describes on his O’Brien video. I am using a Dayton audio umm6 mic. The neck is not on. The guitar is a OM size. It is a little less than 4” ...

Guitar one frequency
Hello all, i just boxed up my first guitar. I took a frequency reading of the top on the sides before i put the back on. That was clearly at 178hz. I took a couple fft readings of it boxed and they all look like my attachment. peaks at 12hz 47hz 115hz and 224 hz.What can be made of this? Not an imag...

Re: New shop
Hey Bob, the creative hub in Bremen is cool, although relatively new and not super effectively run yet. Many other cities have a creative hub and is love to check them out when I leave. It’s super ideal for artists and crafts people getting their feet on the ground. Bremen’s is organized by a large ...

New shop
Hi everyone, I haven’t really contributed anything but questions over the last year I have been on here. And building has always been a free time thing since I graduated Galloup on 2014. With shops in my attic or basement. But In october I made a big move from Buffalo NY to Bremen Germany to live wi...

Guitar sides
I have been pondering the pros and cons between laminated sides, and the “composite” sides that many builders I admire now are using. That is, the sides that are super thick with full side length kerfing laminated. Those thick sides are very ridged but weigh a lot more too. And take up air cavity sp...

Newbie trying to shift frequencies
I am on my second build and I am really trying to get some get the targets I'm aiming for. I have some design flaws I am working through and will tweak on future builds. It's an x braces om style guitar. Air is at 109 hz and top is at 238 hz. The top was at 250, and with edge thinning dropped very e...

Re: Twisting deflection
Yes I have read that thread. And this one viewtopic.php?f=33&t=8707
And they are helpful. Just looking for more direction on the G_LC using deflection. Seems like most guys just use an average value for the wood species
