Re: 6 PIN 12 STRING BRIDGE (shared pin method)
Hi Guys, thinking of doing a 12 string (bucket list item) so have been studying this post. Following Marks suggestion I did a search and found the original page (with pickies) from Wayback Machine if anybody is interested : http://web.archive.org/web/20080720083523/http://www.anzlf.com/viewtopic.php...

Re: Attention all Lurkers
Christchurch my city of birth and alot my youth spent hanging around CJs Music Store back in the 70's. Secret accordian player are you?  Charlie was very influential in me taking up 'loofery' He let me hang out in the repair section of his shop after school e.t.c watching and learning fr...

Re: Attention all Lurkers
It is so great to see Nick and Dean showing up here again after all this time. Good to hear that the interest is still there even if time and opportunity has been leading you elsewhere. Nick, you were one of the regulars when I was a newby at ANZLF. I hope you get a chance to get back to the wood s...

My Guitars sounded a lot like a barge when I'd finished, they shared the same sonic and tonal qualities.

Re: Attention all Lurkers
Just hanging on in there. Used to be a fairly active member here on the forum (a few of the 'old timers' may remember me  ) but unfortunately my wife's health has taken a massive downturn so when I'm not working to pay the bills I'm caring for her so I don't get much time at all for guitar bui...

Re: Nick's Tobacco burst....
Perfect! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this tutorial! Just found this as I contemplate getting stuck into some colour/burst work on a new octave mandolin. @Nick have you ever done any staining on red beech/tawhai? Cheers, Davy No Worries Davy. No I've never stained a piece of Tawhai, I...

"Hello, anyone home?" Just thought I'd pop me head around the door and see who's still doing what. Good to see so many of the 'old faces' still around and actively contributing and new ones onboard keeping the ANZLF alive and valid! Haven't been active myself much at all unfortunately, due to 'other...

Geez, you go away for a few years and look what happens! Haven't been active in the luthier field for a couple of years now due to ongoing family matters but that doesn't stop me dropping by occasionally to drool over everybody else's work. If I ever get back into it I can see I'm going to have to l...

All good here thanks Martin, piss poor night's sleep but that's the worst of it. Was a biggy and lasted 80 seconds (felt longer!), yeah the original 6.6 was upgraded to a 7.5 ( they're thinkng it was two seperate faults that went off together). Kaikoura's completely isolated and all roads north are ...

Re: Stephanie Jones
Gifted indeed but clearly works very hard at her craft. I bought her cd and asked if there was a secret to playing that many notes without a buzz. Predictably, she said "practice" Very inspiring, I had to pick up my guitar and play something when I got home to see if I could play anything without a...

Thanks Richard, a thoroughly enjoyable 20 minutes looking through her channel. It's been years since I've listened to Classical Guitar, I'd forgotten how, when well played, beautiful and tender the instrument can be. :cl :cl And just to make me even more depressed about my lack of playing talent, sh...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge
To my mind, even if there is a vector force counteracting the string pull angle, the end result would still be an upward pull behind the bridge...so what's changed? The complexity and weight of the bridge and the size of the bridge plate, tying up the top movement, stiffening and thickening the sou...

Re: 12 String SS Falcate braced Ziricote\spruce guitar.
Beautiful full 12 string sound John, has all the basses covered in the tone stakes, a full bass and complex highs, I love 12 stringers. Great choice of music too (one of my 'go-to' pieces to get the fingers warmed up) just a pity about your instructor's tee shirt   It's been a great journ...

What a beautiful guitar Kim, I love the black accents, how you've carried the rosette right up to the edge of the soundhole & matched sapwood to your joints. All subtle touches that make one fine looking instrument. Very jealous of your son.

Re: Archtop bass
They are reminiscent of the Hofner Beatles bass. They sound unique, one friend, who I have gigged with many times, pulls a great tone. Nothing like a Fender bass sound though. The Hofners (and Matons I suspect) used a ply construction so would be inherently stiff and why pickups were used. Rod make...

Re: Miratone or Wattyl Stylewood
I've never used the Watyl product, but from the cut and paste it doesn't appear to be anything like Microtone 3220. The dust free, touch dry and re-coat time make me think more of some sort of varnish type product. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it doesn't seem to be comparing appl...

Welcome to the forum Paul! some nice little ukes there. I use the 3220, it is also a pre cat lacquer so from what you say of the Wattyl ( I've never even heard of it let alone used it (we do have Wattyl products here in NZ but never seen that one) so I can't comment on a direct comparison) they soun...

Wouldn't want the customer to eat a cold Souvalaki! The would-be robber's reaction makes me laugh, must either be the most chilled out armed robber you've ever seen or has consumed the whole of the East Coast's supply of weed before venturing out (mind you, he would have probably demanded souvalaki'...
