Thanks for posting Michael, I'm always interested in pics like this. It really paints the picture of the whole process from Tree to Stringed Instrument. For those keen on this stuff have a look at http://www.bowerbirdtimber.com/ for some great pics of big trees! These guys are about a half hour driv...

Thanks for the kind words Sebastiaan. No worries at all! A good web forum encourages different views and opinions.....nobody is right and nobody is wrong when it comes to these opinion issues.....I love em :D I reckon Pink Floyd are another example of a band that combined acoustic and electric guita...

Er, yup, the 'blood' has all gone now, although if you used a bit of 'luminol', I'm sure it would show up hahaha! G'day Allen. Thanks for the welcome mate! Yes workshops often start all nice and pretty but mine always end up like that pic pretty quick. I'm glueing a set neck on a 12 string solid/chambered body electric today and I have stuff everywhere :D Yes that is a cast iron wood stove in the corner. I actu...

Ok, I'm new to this forum and have just been scanning through various threads and these Acoustic vs Electric topics always get me in! I agree with the general concensus achieved thus far being that BOTH styles of instrument are built by 'luthiers'. I always understood the term/occupation title to be...

I love these threads about workshops! I started off in a 4m x 4m space and was literally packed into the rafters. I recently managed to convince my wife that the old TV/Music room would be be put to much better use as a workshop 8) First pic is as you enter the door to the workshop from my office......

My method is somewhat similar to Graham's..... I radius each end with 80 grit on the desired radius block. Once I have achieved say 9.5" at one end and 12" at the other I simply "join the two' ends with a long aluminium radius beam. This is very manual, takes a reasonable amount of time and is of co...
