Re: Dead notes on 13th fret

I hope I'm not sounding condescending here but you did try and the hammer the 14th fret down, not the 13th? Have you tried a fret rocker or anything flat than can span 3 frets to confirm a high fret?

Resawing, Bandsaw drift etc

Hi all. Just wanted to talk about re-sawing I'm assuming a few of you do your own re-sawing. I'm curious if you've seen the Alex Snodgrass video where he says bandsaws should never drift if they're setup correctly by putting the widest part of the gullet of the blade in the centre of the wheel as op...

Hi Steve,

I ordered some radius dishes a few days ago and got a response via ebay messaging this morning so he's still around.

Re: US Postal Service

I have a flame maple board coming, it was sent on the 30th of September via USPS, I got a message from Australia post today saying it was in Sydney so I'm pretty happy it's made it, I think I must've just beat the suspension. Wayne Now you just have to wait at least a month, if you're lucky. I had ...

Re: Help to build a 4-string electric bass

I cut out my first electric out of 45mm thick American white ash with just a jigsaw and a Ryobi router, so you don't absolutely need a bandsaw. I've now gotten a 14" bandsaw. I'm in Glenroy in the northern suburbs. If you can't find anyone closer and willing to travel for an hour or so I can help. A...

Re: Bending Sides issue

It must be an epidemic. I hope you don't mind me posting in your thread Murray, but I had the same issue with some flame maple on a bending iron. I didn't soak, just spritzed it but I didn't use a steel slat on top as it was bending easily. Now I know to use the slat. So is there a way to flatten t...

Re: Stew Mac shipping - warning

I've placed 5 orders in the past year and half, 2 were sent by Fedex, the rest via DHL. The last in March was DHL. I don't think they've permanently changed to Fedex. I'm guessing they might have a restriction on the amount that can get picked up every day by DHL. It's probably one van or truck. If ...

I've managed to get blushing out by spraying a light mist coat in lower RH conditions a couple of times. It does work. It was with clear though.

Re: New GST rules

I've got $500 worth of timber coming from Canada via surface mail soon. I'm wondering if it arrives after 1st July whether I'll have to pay. Will customs be smart enough to let it go by looking at the ship date on the package.

Cutting fret slots

Hey all.

Do any of you use a mitre saw for cutting fret slots. I want to upgrade from the mitre box and fret saw blade but don't have the space for a table saw. Any recommendations? I'm guessing I'll need a sliding one?

Thanks,
Piero

Re: Titebond

I checked out carbatec before I bought from ebay but it was dearer. It'd be about a 3 to 4 hour round trip to drive over there from here, I'd rather pay postage and save the time. Masters was only 5 minutes from here so it was real handy and there's a Bunnings not much further, I was just hoping th...

Re: making an electric guitar shim

I recently bought a used Fender Baja telecaster and decided to take the neck off to have a look. I found this shim: http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk72/Blackstar109900/IMG_1101.jpg It was only .5mm thick. I didn't think it needed it so I took it out and re-attached the neck and lowered the saddl...

I'm guessing that when the frame rate of the camera lens is close to the frequency of the vibrating string or multiple of it, then the string will appear to have a static pattern or slightly moving? Correct?

Re: Trimming wood binding height

Thanks for all the suggestions. I don't have a table saw so that's won't work. I'm not sure the pieces will hold up if they're stacked side by side and put through a drum sander without support on either side but I'll try rigging something up. I like the idea of a slot in MDF and scraping or planing...

Trimming wood binding height

I have some jarrah that I've cut up to make some binding strips. Ive gotten the width down to 2mm on my drum sander but I can't seem to think of an easy way to true up a rough sawn edge for the height . It would take me quite a while to run them on some sandpaper on a flat surface, even then I doubt...

Hi Blackstar, it is great to have you contributing to the forum. Do you have a real name that we can call you by? My few thoughts on 12-strings: 1. I like the look of the 6-pin bridge for a 12-string guitar. Take a look at this old thread with plenty of good information provided by Craig Lawrence. ...

Re: Hi and a question about a 12 string acoustic build

Thanks Martin. I didn't think about intonation. I've built a Gibson EDS1275 style double neck that intonates ok with 6 saddlles on the 12 string neck but I'm thinking heavier strings and a slightly higher action would probably need separate compensation for each string. I didn't know you could get b...

Hi and a question about a 12 string acoustic build

I've been lurking for a while but this is my first post so hello everyone . Some seriously talented and experienced people here. I hope to learn a lot. I've built 10 electrics and 1 acoustic so far so I've got some experience under my belt. I've just started on a 12 string acoustic and I'm wondering...
