Re: Identity?

G&R Guitars brings up a few hits on Google. There's an Indian company by that name making guitars.

Re: Acoustic Guitar neck bolt options

These days I use 6mm knock down bolts that engage into a cross dowel set into the neck tenon. I find the cross dowel provides a little bit of "wiggle room" if the tenon and headblock holes aren't perfectly in line with each other. Note..make sure you get the dowels with the hole drilled centrally th...

Re: Finishing disaster

Unfortunately they don't make grain filler with a grain in it :(

The easiest option.....do a Willy Nelson and leave the gaping holes. They made Willy famous...maybe they'll make you famous too :D

Re: Target deflection for guitar tops

It's not so much the absolute deflection that matters (although I think that can be useful in comparing guitars of identical dimensions-- these guys do it ), as the force per unit deflection (Newtons per meter). And from there, to measure the natural frequency of the top and calculate the monopole ...

Simple green might work as well but have not tried either.
John
I did a bit of research yesterday on cleaners used on sanding belts and Simple Green seems to pop up frequently.

Re: Sanding belt cleaners

The MSDS sheet for the CMT product doesn't provide a full list of ingredients but it does list sodium carbonate and alcohol ethoxylate. https://msdsdigital.com/cmt-formula-2050-msds. I suspect these may be the ingredients doing most of the work.

Thanks Martin.

It was one run by Perry Ormsby. I believe he is/was a member on here back in the day?
Yeah I had a hunch Perry was running the course you did.

Re: Two ukuleles

If you see one on 9 then you know that whomever built it doesn't know ukuleles. But as Martin said, the side dots are far more important than those on the face. LOL...thanks for that clarification Allen. I spent a couple of hours going through pics of ukes on the net and couldn't really gain any pi...

Re: Two ukuleles

Oh and one other silly question, coming from guitars I'm quite comfortable with where the fret markers usually live on them, but where are they on a uke typically? Looks like 5, 7 and 10 usually get a marker. Does 12 usually get a special one if that's where the neck and body join? I assume side do...

Re: Two ukuleles

I'm just about finished making the forms for the tenor uke, then I can get to bending up the sides from qld walnut. I only have enough timber to have one crack at it, so I'm definitely going to be pre-bending it before it goes in the form for final glue up - I really can't have a cracked side. Does...

Re: Two ukuleles

I fit K and K pad style passive pickups on all my guitars and I've done one uke fitted with same. The main reason I use them...theyre reliable, easy to fit and they dont sound "quacky" like many under saddle piezos.

Re: Two ukuleles

I can sneak a second soprano sound board out of the same piece of bunya pine (not that I need it at the moment, but good to know for in the future) but it's getting mighty close to that knot. Would I be setting myself up to fail if I used this piece? Should be ok but if there's any part of the knot...

Re: Saddle issue.

If it was me I'd get the saddle out and get a fresh saddle blank in. If the thing is glued in then it can be routed out. You'll need a suitable jig to guide the router such as the Stewmac saddle routing jig. There are home made alternatives to the latter. A string breaking over the back of a saddle ...
