If worse comes to worse and you lose the leg Ive got some nice Honduras Mahogany neck blanks that would make a dandy peg leg

If youve got fingers like ET then it should be a breeze to play. I recall an article in one of my GAL Big Red Books with a similar idea but the fretboard had seperate short frets for each string which would make string bending impossible. Even on the guitar in the link string bending is going to be ...

Bob, I got my wood from Graham about a week ago.....for some reason it took a bit quicker to get to me than your consignment. Out on the rig at the moment so cant get a look at the stuff. Did the stuff come in a wooden box (in one of your photos)? The shipping costs from Canada are high so maybe if ...

I've got another lot arriving from him in the next few weeks and Martin Turner has got a heap on the way as well. It's a pity that postage costs from Canada are so exhorbitant. Tell me about it!! Postage nearly cost the same as the wood. If that wasnt bad enough the bldi stuff arrived the day after...

This fairly common, nylon stretches a bit more than steel. I generally use Savarez strings on my classicals....the ones in the red packet (think theyre fortes).

Matthew,

Do you ever get problems with basses splitting along the back centre seam? Just curious.

Ive just started using a cross brace on the back of my steel strings and find it holds the arch much better than more conventional transverse bracing.

Hey Craig,

Life is ok out here on the rig. Had a few busy days getting IT and comms problems sorted out but now things are steady. Weather out here in the taranaki bight has been magnificent.

Nice looking jig their Grant. Youre going to get the same result as I will with my soon to arrive $US195 Luthier Tools binding cutter base for a lot less. The washer is a clever addition. Some tips: 1. Make sure both the bearings are riding against the side of the guitar. 2. Check that youre not til...

Off to Work.....no guitar building for next 3 weeks

Well the bags are packed and Im on a plane to New Zealand tomorrow. Got a day in New Plymouth and then Im on a bird headed out to an offshore rig. Should be out on the job for 2-3 weeks and then its straight back to Australia for another job off the NW shelf. Finding it harder and harder to go to wo...

Great post Serge. Glad to see youre actually building some guitars brother. Your Mum looks like a fine elegant woman. How old is she? Looks as fit as a fiddle and in better shape than me. Looks like she knows how to handle a guitar as well. Looking forward to alot more guitar building posts from you...

Silicone blanket my first choice but youll still need an iron for touching up sides. I run a Blues Creek Guitars 110volt blanket via a stepdown transformer and router speed controller. Not the cheapest setup but I didnt have time to chase around local suppliers. Matthew (Mou' Bass) uses a locally so...

A kind of Brazilian Rosewood?? Surely if its bldi D niagra then by definition it IS Brazilian Rosewood.

Regardless, he's in the US so I think there'd be issues shipping back to Oz unless you can convince the Ozzie quarantine boys that the stuff hasnt come from Brazil.

Printer support has always been an issue with Canon and a few of the other printer manufacturers. Epsons usually run reliably on Macs. I have an Epson scanner that has never caused problems.

Overall consensus is that if youre running the new Intel chipped machines its worth the upgrade but if like me youre still using the...
