Any recommendations for suppliers of EI Rosewood

I am wanting to purchase half a dozen or so sets of AAA or Master grade EIR - and wondered if anyone here had a supplier that they have used, and could recommend. Price is always an issue, but in this case I am more interested in quality - in particular nice straight grain, as dark as possible, and ...

Those can't go by without a comment - simply fantastic. The symmetry in the figure is the necks is perfect and these are going to be real eye catchers. I look forward to seeing the finished product. I am also looking forward to seeing your exhibits in Montreal - the tasters you have given us are ver...

Very classy indeed.

I do love the look of the hollow body electrics - and this one is a bewdy. Love the wide body and the soft cutaway.

Re: And now for something completely different

This is fascinating mate,

I am really enjoying following this thread, and I am full of admiration for people who have these kind of skills. It is easy to see why your guitars have such a high level of precision too.

Keep the pictures coming.

Re: Honduran Rosewood / Red Spruce Tenor

Very classy Allen - I love the headstock in particular. I am a big fan of slotted headstocks on guitars, and they look just as nice on Ukes.

What was the binding around the headstock done with. It appears to be bent around the corners rather than mitered - is that correct ?

Re: A travel guitar on the cheap

Hey Lillian, I don't think it would make any difference which brace you made the taller one - given that it is only taller for a small part of its length. As mentioned it is profiled back to the same height by the time it has reached the point where the finger brace meets it. The width of the braces...

Re: Seismic 2011 project for the Montreal Guitar Show

Hey there Jeffrey - I fully expect this to be a masterpiece like all of your guitars - and it is certainly starting out that way.

I am planning to be at the Montreal show this year ( as a spectator ) and will make a point of coming to meet you and checking this out.

Re: A travel guitar on the cheap

Thanks for the comments guys .... Kim - I have not capped the X braces on any of my guitars. The X braces are different heights at the point they cross. In this case the one coming from bottom left is about 2.5 mm taller than the other one at the cross. It then angles down at a slightly steeper angl...

Hey there Alistair, There are no silly questions on this forums - thought there are silly answers sometimes !! I did put two back reinforcements in, and I expect this would probably be the norm. I have attached a couple more pics - showing the inside of the box for you, including both the back and t...

I get a feeling this is going to be another one of those ''must follow" threads like Matthews bass build.

A travel guitar on the cheap

I just finished this travel guitar over the weekend. It was mostly made from offcuts and left overs from previous guitars ( hence the rather ugly three piece back ) so it cost me bugger-all. Quite a fun project. The back and sides are Monkey Pod. I had brought this from Allied quite a while ago, and...

Looking great !! Thats a beautiful colour in the close up shot of the sides. How is the Macrocarpa working out for the tops ? ( I just love the smell of working with Macro )

I have also been keeping my eyes out for these appearing in the Rockshop - looks like they won't be too far away.

I would like to add my thanks to our Australian friends. The job that the Australian USAR and police are doing in Christchurch is just fantastic - and the fact they they offered help and got people here so quickly just shows that although they are sworn enemies on the rugby field - they are out best...

Has anyone here used the pickguards from ALS

Does anyone here have experience of the self adhesive pickguards from Australian Luthiery Supplies. I have one of these I am about to put on my recently completed guitar, but having not used these before I wondered if anyone could recommend them ( or not ). In particular - I have heard that some pic...

Re: OM#5 finished - and an opinion on pickguard sought

Hey guys - thanks for your feedback. Rod - the headstock is Rewarewa. I have used this quite a bit in rosettes. Depending on the direction you slice it you can get a short tight grain like in the rosette, or a longer looser grain as in the headstock. I have one lump of this wood - not very big - and...

OM#5 finished - and an opinion on pickguard sought

#5 was finished and strung up last weekend. This one has probably been about 4 mths in the making. I am biased of course, but I am very happy with both the playability and the sound. Specs are: Back & Sides - Eucalyptus Globulus Top - Sitka Spruce Neck - Mahogany Fingerboard and Bridge - Ebony Roset...

That is stunning .... fantastic detailing and overall design. I especially like the way the purfling line frames the cutaway and the armrest. I have always been a fan of those cutaways you do- but I bet they are a nightmare to get right ?

Truely inspiring work.

Hey Nick - beautiful job mate.

Your mate will be over the moon when he gets that in his hands - and hopefully it will inspire him to great things.

You have done a fantastic job as usual and the attention to detail is there for everyone to see.

That is beautiful Christian - what more can I say. I am not normally a big fan of inlay work, but this is really nice how the neck inlay and rosette are one and the same.

I am sure the owner will be well pleased.
