Re: Baritone Ukulele design
Aloha Alan, One thing you might want to try is to make the sound hole a little smaller. David Hurd, who is cited in that South Coast ukulele article you mentioned, has a similar story in his book, page 120, except for a low g tenor which had a "thunky" g string. He suggested that the air resonance o...

Re: "Squiggle Wood" Coved Kerfing
Very well done Donovan. Nice use of a cove bit? :cl Steve Thanks Steve. I'm working on version 2.0 and also another variation. Used a 1/4" cove bit with bearing on a router table. Fun stuff...trying to cut a cove in a thin piece of wood with kerfs on opposing faces. Not for the faint of heart. It d...

Re: Modified Falcate/Kasha Tenor Uke
This uke has class!!! Jeremy, do you compliance map? If so, I am interested to know if you change your stiffness pattern/distribution with the Falcate/Kasha bracing as compared to your "normal" bracing system. Trying to get a feel for the difference in sound across bracing systems but with similar s...

Re: Six String Tenor Ukulele - Pic Heavy ...
Old to the forum but new to me. On the other hand we can check to see if Trevor's tastes remain consistent :D What a stunning choice of materials and craftmanship! The design elements are spot on. Nice job!! Sorry to bring up an old thread but this ukulele deserves it! Great job Jeremy. donovan

Re: "Squiggle Wood" Coved Kerfing
Sorry for the lack of description earlier. I didn't want to get stuck on the computer/forums and take away from shop time. So a couple of months ago I bought a Bridge City Tools Jointmaker Pro. But the principles are the same if you make kerfing on a table saw. I started with clean "blanks" approxim...

"Squiggle Wood" Coved Kerfing
Thought I would share my latest shop creation. Also posted on UU. Calling it Squiggle Wood Coved Kerfing. The cove adds a bit of elegance (to my eye). More so than the chamfer or triangle but to each their own. There are some other subtleties in there too. Still working out some kinks/details for uk...

Re: Kia ora, G'day and Aloha
Thanks Jim, Gotta give credit where credit is due. That setup belongs to David Hurd (Kawika Ukuleles) who was kind enough to let me borrow it while I'm trying to get a grasp on his "Left Brain Lutherie" book. The irony was it helps keep all the glitter off the floor but not out of the soundhole. I p...

Re: Kia ora, G'day and Aloha
Welcome to the forum Donovan, you'll like it here, all good guys and pretty helpful. Wayne Thanks Wayne and Nick. I've enjoyed reading some of the older threads these past few days. Interesting stuff!!! With all of the ukulele builders on this forum I think the forum sub-title should expand to incl...

Kia ora, G'day and Aloha
Kia ora, G'day and Aloha, Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Donovan Preza and I live in Hilo, Hawaii and I'm transitioning into building ukuleles again. I had a short life break from woodworking and instruments but now I'm back at it. I have only been lurking here for a couple of weeks but...
