Re: I'd like to try a kit
All very honest answers and I appreciate that very much. I've been considering the practicality of this and I better just cool my jets. I just don't have a place to work on such a project at this time. Plus the cost of buying the tools needed would creep up the overall cost. Then there is the know-h...

Re: I'd like to try a kit
Everyone has been very generous with advice. This forum is a great resource. I do plan to upgrade my current factory guitar one day. My playing skills have improved and I'm beginning to outgrow the guitar. However I can state that I don't intend to build that upgraded guitar myself! I just don't hav...

Re: I'd like to try a kit
Gentlemen,
this is all expert advice and I thank you.
It seems like this could be a great learning project or a just a lot of pain.

Re: I'd like to try a kit
Has anyone ever built a kit guitar?
Can they be made into nice sounding/playing instruments? "A silk purse from a sow's ear" so to speak? Or a nice leather purse anyway?
Or will it never be more than the sum of it's parts?

Re: I'd like to try a kit
Thanks for the replies. It has given me a bit to ponder. I suppose the most important thing I need is an unmolested place to work. A dedicated space and table/bench. A good book about C.G. construction also seems necessary. Now...here is the tricky part. I'm a left handed player. I have 4 guitars an...

I'd like to try a kit
Hello all, I'm a classical player and have an overall interest in the nylon string classical guitar, including how they are put together and how they work. I don't think I'd like to dive in and be a luthier, but I'm considering having a go at putting a kit together like this one. http://luthierssupp...

Re: Ambidextrous guitar
You're in a bit of a limbo there, a bit far from Brissie and too far from the top end..... Yes, this is a very "basic" area and if you have any interests in life that are not rubber stamp made in plastic, then this indeed limbo. I took my Alhambra into the local music store once to check out some a...

Re: Ambidextrous guitar
Thanks Jeff and Trevor, that was just the kind of answer I was hoping for...to the point and very clear. I suppose every craft/trade/art eventually develops adherants for doing things a certain way even if there is no real need for it.

Re: Ambidextrous guitar
Thanks gents, I'm grateful. If it is no problem to make a guitar that can be played right or left handed with just a string and nut/saddle change, then why aren't they commonly made? Please, pardon me. I'm new on the forum and I mean no disrespect. It is one thing to reverse string a cheap factory m...

Re: Ambidextrous guitar
Thank you for your assistance. I'm not ready to buy yet, just curious about the practicalites of a guitar that can be easily be converted to left/right handed playing.

Re: Ambidextrous guitar
Thanks for the reply. I should have clarified that those are the prices for overseas purchases. Sorry about that. I think in Australia those guitars are $3500-$4000. So something at that level.

Ambidextrous guitar
Hello all, I'm considering upgrading my classical guitar to higher end advanced student/entry concert quality. That may be a vague term, but I was looking at the $2500-$3000 price range for a factory built Alhambra or Ramirez. I'm a left handed player and was reading on Delcamp forum about how some ...
