Re: Ukulele Tenor
That is a really interesting and effective combination of timbers. I don't think I have ever seen a mahogany top with anything other than mahogany for the back and sides. It really looks good, especially with the black binding. Nice one! I am not an expert in ukulele, I have seen guitars with mahog...

Yep ! I am actually adding weigth to my headstock !
I have studies to prove it

You want the energy to go back into your guitar neck and body, not to let it go in a lightweight headstock.

Re: finishing question
For what I know, I would refinish. Even though it burns in quite well, it is going to leave a spot mark, It may work okay, but you might not be able to completly erase that spot you went through. And you need a good scuff of 320 to allow lacquer to bond well. Honestly, finishing job is hard to maste...

Re: Fish Glue....never again.
I LOVE fish glue ! It dry as glass, it clean up very well with warm moisture, it really tighten joint like hide glue and joint are seemless You only need to know when to use it. I wouldn't of use it on binding, it takes too long to dry (6 to 12hours) Titebond is the way for binding and other job I d...

... how can you shape accuratly your neck if you don't have any outlines of the finguerboard ? ... make your fb aside, with the radius, then glue it on your neck. then you can use the side of the fret board as a guide to route the neck flush. to compensate with the radius you can stick with double s...

Re: Boiling sides?
Yep, 2.6mm is rather thick for just about any sides. Typical is no more than 2.2mm, then down to 1.8mm or a bit less on cutaways, thinner on stuff like bloodwood ( brosimum rubescens ). Torres was famous for really thin sides, in the 1mm range. No idea why he went so thin, but the air resonance cer...

Re: Masking tape that works?
I like to fret after applying the finish. Prevent chipping/lifting the finish on the side of the fb and you don't get that bleed you get.
anyway, best tape I found, is the 3M green masking tape number 401+

Cheers BBK  Don't worry for me, I easily admit my work is more than perfectible, but still I'm happy with the result... I've checked the fil-stick, sounds like a good idea. Lutherie Gervais, can you tell me how this stuff will react with the finish, especially with a french polished shellac ?...
