Kim that really really sucks. I'm sorry to hear, and I hope you recover quickly and don't have to go through it again. I have a mild dermatological reaction to CA, which is pretty well remedied by a topical cortico-steroid, but nothing like what you have gone through.

I don't think it's necessary; you don't really even need a nut slot. You can simply butt the nut against the end of the fingerboard. However it's much easier to make the nut when you have a slot for it. I do think it looks waaaaaaay better to have one. That line of the scarf joint is ugly, which is ...

What an historic night. I can't believe this is the same U.S. that voted for Bush twice , sort of (since he did steal 2000). Anyway, well said, Dennis. I think he has already changed the U.S. for the better, simply through inspiration and hope. He/we certainly do have a lot of work ahead of us though.

I think Dave nailed it with the scallops in front of the X. That area of the X definitely needs to be strong, and isn't usually scalloped at all. The rest of the bracing doesn't look too thin to me though, but that's without knowing how stiff or floppy your top is.

Definitely C for me though.

I do things similarly to Bob and Hesh. I don't start tapping until all the braces are on, including bridge plate. I don't listen for a particular note. I've also had the luxury of working with and being a student of Robbie O'Brien's, where I can go around flexing, tapping, and listening to dozens of...
