Re: current reputable intensive workshops?

Hi Ben. I run weekly and intensive courses from my workshops in Hornsby (Sydney), and Port Stephens. Myself and my staff have instructed over 500x student guitars at these locations to date all to a very high quality. If you are specifically after an intensive course - i do these in 3week alotments...

I've had a look at the site, and that looks pretty good as well.

current reputable intensive workshops?

Hi everyone, If this query is answered in another post anywhere, please feel free to redirect me to that. But I'm curious please if hear if there any suggestions about reputable lutherie workshops running in Australia? Who is currently running classes or workshops that are generally well-regarded? I...

Re: Danelectro U2 plans?

Yes, I’m planning on the same - ‘proper’ timbers instead of Masonite, neck with truss rod, master volume and tone, the adjustable Dano bridge rather than the one with a timber saddle. I may even depart even further and put in some Filtertrons instead of lipsticks, or one of each. I’m also considerin...

Re: Danelectro U2 plans?

I've found some building info on other Dano guitars. Since it's just a laminated body, I'm going to use techniques from Dano in general, but copy the U2 shape. Should be easy enough by enlarging a pic big enough since I know the scale length. It doesn't need to be perfect anyway, because I'm aiming ...

Danelectro U2 plans?

Hi everyone, Does anyone know where I can get plans for a Danelectro U2 (or the '56 reissue from the 90's, or the current '57 reissue - all the same guitar pretty much)? I've had a look in the Plans forum but so far haven't found anything. I did find one reference through Google, but the link was de...

Re: Attention all Lurkers

Hi. I probably should reply to this thread. I first signed up here back around 2008. For a few years I was very very keen. I didn't post a whole lot, but there are over 30 posts from me in my history. I bought a heap of tools, was on ANZLF literally daily (or thereabouts), built a kit uke, did a bui...

Re: making an electric guitar shim

Thanks again. I thought I had set things up so that I'd get emails when new posts were added, so I was surprised to come on today and find a bit of discussion. To be honest, I really have no idea as to whether full-size or smaller shims are better. But I'm going to go with full-size. If anything, it...

Re: making an electric guitar shim

Thanks everyone. Interesting to follow one of those links and to see comments arguing for and against full-size shims. Anyway, I'll experiment and I'm sure I'll come up with something.

making an electric guitar shim

Hi everyone. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to make a decent shim for an electric guitar that I'm refurbishing? I want a full-size wooden shim that tapers down to zero, as per this article and this item from Stew Mac: http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/19686-guitar-shop-101-how-to-s...

Re: Help please with identifying these pickups, if possible?

Thanks GregL, You know, I've searched online for info for that old Vantage a couple of times since I've owned it, and I've never come across that site before - not sure why. Excellent info. I found the page for my model (the earlier one, 1978: http://www.vantage-guitars.com/models/600vs.htm), and it...

Help please with identifying these pickups, if possible?

Hi everyone. I haven't posted on here in a long time. In fact due to changing jobs, moving, babies, etc I haven't touched much by way of building in a while. So I'm getting my feet wet again by tackling a project that has been on my list for years. I have an old Vantage that I bought at a pawn shop ...

Re: installing endpin jack for K&K Pure Mini

I thought I'd update this thread very briefly and say that I did get the pickup installed. I ended up buying a 12mm step bit, which worked well, and then I had to get a regular 12mm bit to finish the job. The pickup itself is very good. The guitar is a cheapie which I've owned for over 20 years. I'm...

Kind regards

installing endpin jack for K&K Pure Mini

Hello everyone, I'm about to install a K&K Pure Mini in one of my guitars. I'm wondering about the best way to make the hole for the endpin jack (1/2" or 12mm). The guitar I will be putting the pickup in currently has an endpin which is the tapered press fit style. What I want to do of course is wid...

Soundhole or removable pickup?

Can anyone advice regarding soundhole or removable pickups. I've browsed here and found good advice on other styles, and ended up getting a K&K for one of my acoustics. But I have a need to only temporarily amplify another guitar. I'd like to have a pickup on hand for those times when I need a picku...

re-finish over Danish oil?

I have a question about re-finishing a guitar. A couple of years ago I built a guitar through one of the lutherie 'schools' here in Australia. The finish taught there was Danish oil, basically an oil and wax finish. It looked good initially. Now, a couple of years on I have recently moved from the c...

Thanks for sharing this. As a minister and someone who dabbles with and is interested in guitar building, I've wondered how lutherie could have a role in Gospel ministry. I've had some ideas, but had not seen this one. Appreciated.

Re: Tuners and Strings for a Ukulele

This topic relates to something I've been through recently, so I'll add my 2 cents. I've only built a couple of instruments so far. The first was a soprano through a Stew Mac kit. It's a decent kit. It was a good way of me 'testing the waters' as far as instrument building goes. It's definitely not ...

I just happened to be on the Officeworks site recently to check about their printing and copying prices for some things for church, and remembered that there is a page of all their prices including plan-sized documents (at the bottom of the page): http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/content/copying...
